junk mail question (apple mail app)...

for years, up thru el capitan, i marked an email in my inbox as junk, then deleted it...and it went to the trash. now, my only option is to move it to a junk mail folder (where i'll just have to sort it out later).

has something changed? or am i missing something? am on a pop account....

seems that no longer works. but i guess i can just sent the junk mail folder to delete everything after a week...
