lol just avoid chrome. use safari, it takes much less cpu usage

Yes that's where half of the problem lies
Using Chrome I can get only 2.5 Hour of battary life and 60% CPU usage
Meanwhile watch the same Channel with Safari, 4 hours and 25% CPU usage
I have very similar plugins installed on both browsers and always with lowest brightless
Anyway flash is still very battery consuming and that's the second half of the problem!

From my personally experience, the battary life difference is far greater than the reviews that we see in the last couple of days (if you do flash)

lol then i gotta say, try to avoid flash. indeed flash is a big problem, not only for this specific macbook, but for macs in general.

have you tried clicktoplugin ever? reduce the usage of flash.

Yes I have that enabled (something similar built in in safari), but for flash streaming I'll need to enable it
Seriously, why can't these streaming providers use a HTML5 version:(

If you are a Lightroom user - would love to know how photo editing a RAW performs ... applying filters etc.

well, youtube uses html5 by default.
you should try that on safari, i believe it forces some website to use html5 instead of flash.

Can you upload the flower wallpaper?? And confirm there are new wallpapers on the Mac? I don't think I remember seeing any new ones on the display units. Sorry if it sounds a bit trivial.

wow this is an impressively low score. all 2015 year model (256g or bigger) has more than 1g/s speed. though we probably won't feel any difference in daily use

----------

for 256 or larger model, should be around 1.3g/s
but you won't feel any difference in your use.

i have a 128g 2013 rmbp, and a 1t hard drive. the speed on 128 is 200w/500r and on 1t is 1000w/1000r but i don't feel any difference, at all. just a better score, that's it.

I thought only the 13" MBA and rMBP got the 4-land PCI-e, although I see a post above to the contrary. In any case I'm not sure there are very many times when you'd notice. Most of the time computing tasks are going to involve other components that were not upgraded, which are going to effectively serve as bottlenecks or at least speed bumps for these very fast PCI-e SSDs.

that's right, it's just a nicer benchmark. you won't notice it at all.

well except when you are copying filed on your local hard drive lol

Now, encrypt your disk with FileVault and see if it impacts SSD performance.

With the core i5/i7 chips, FileVault is 100% cpu-accelerated and I still get my full 750mbps (or so) read and write even with full disk encryption (late 2013 rMBP-13).

I'm wondering if the M-series chips also handle accelerated encryption just as capably.

BTW I just got back from the Apple Store and played with the base spec rMB, damn the space gray sure looks nice. The keyboard felt great too, no issues adjusting.

There are no new wallpapers. Wallpapers are OS, not computer specific.

That's the second or third thing I do with a laptop (EFI password is the first, and I turn on Find My Mac). I haven't noticed any lag, but obviously I can't do an A/B comparison without some work. My general impression so far with Safari, MS Office and Lightroom is that this is - this is tricky to say right - not noticeably slower than my rMBP. I need to tee up a big export from Lightroom to see if a large, continuing job would bog the Core M down and compare the process time against the rMBP, but I haven't had time.

How does it run 4K video on youtube?

beautifully! no stuttering and buttery smooth, base model too (1.1/256)

this video was fun

OP's upgraded model was 451w/844r, mine keeps up too

Light PS CS6 work, seems to work well enough :D

i'm grateful coming from 2011 air
