Guys,
I just bought the 2017 iMac with 27" and it has been the best thing ever.

Can you tell me some of the best apps to use for productivity and usage?

Been a long time Mac Pro user as a Photographer and Graphic Designer. Bought my dad the base 27" for Christmas with the upgraded 2tb fusion for the bigger 128gb SSD.

It is a fantastic machine. Really powerful, makes my 3.46 hex 2010 mac pro feel really old. (which it is). That screen too... amazing for photography.

Adobe CC works very competently, indesign a given as its not overly taxing but vast improvements for Lightroom no juddering and slow response with zooming and using targeted adjustments. Didnt play with the rest as its not my machine but its very capable.

Congrats!

I’ve received my new iMac recently...
First, I installed a few classic apps I’ve always needed (they’re free!):
The Unarchiver, Onyx, EasyFind, VLC, an alternative browser (Chrome), some help with calendar (ItsyCal), a “clip” manager (away from mac, don’t remember wich one), AppCleaner.

Congrats! What specs did you decide on? I hope to order my first iMac very soon as well.

If you don't want to shell out for MS Office and 1Password, LibreOffice and Last Pass are great free alternatives.

I mean, we really don’t know what you plan to do with it.

Some third-party applications I love include:
  • 1Password: password and secure data manager
  • Scrivener: professional grade writing application
  • Pixelmator: consumer grade Photoshop alternative
  • Moom: window manager – allows you to save presets for window size and placement .
