I thought people might like hear opinions re 5s from a non Applefanboy and non Applehater!

Pros:
Camera - much better, flash worked well and performed much better in low light. See pic below. It will be interesting to see how it compares to the Z1
Slow mo was very cool, bit gimmicky, but I like it :)
IOS 7 - lots of improvements over previous iOS, couldn't really fault it
Fingerprint Scanner - much quicker and more accurate than I thought it would be
4G - lightening quick

Cons:
Battery - one word - abysmal! I went out to a concert last night and with moderate use it went from 100% (4pm) to 27% (11pm)
Screen size - just too small really. Apple need to offer a larger alternative.
Speakers are pretty average
Headphones are an improvement, but still crap

Battery will improve over time after a dozen or so cycles!

What is FS? Fingerprint scanner?

yes, onions. we'd love to hear all about your 2-cent onions. in all seriousness though, that's a great picture (coming from an owner of a 4th-gen iPod touch lol)

Turn off background app updating. Also, if it was a big concert then maybe your phone was constantly searching for service. I have been using mine most of the day and it is at 51%. Been 12 hours.

The battery should get better. The first 2 days I've had of real use (not the day I got it and had it on all day setting it up and playing with it) it has been 24 hours off charger and 9 hours of use. A little GPS, YouTube, Twitter, texting, and an hour of phone calls. I'm very impressed coming from Android phones. Battery was the one thing I worried about but it's no problem at all.

For the size: it's a little small that I worry about dropping it when taking it out of my pocket. I carried a Note 2 for 6 months and that was too big to hold on to. Opposite problem here. My other phones 4.5" to 4.8" we're perfect size for holding onto.

So 7 hours for 70%... Seems like decent battery to me. What was the usage reported by the phone?

Stop taking cell phone pictures at concerts! It's annoying to the people behind you. Hate watching a show through somebody's screen.

With battery, if the signal is bad, it drains really quick. I have seen this happen in Hard Rock Casino in Tampa. It drops like 1% every couple of minutes.

In good signal area, the same phone holds the battery charge really well.

If I may weight in:

Battery: Did you go from a previous backup? I ask because I rather thought the battery was the same, or maybe better than the 5 I had previously. Keep in mind that the camera, and the slow mo are going to eat battery faster. Depending on how much you did (sounds like not too much, but still) your battery life will vary. I can say I am a pretty heavy user (I don't game much, but my screen is on at least five hours a day doing emails, texting, some updating of Facebook, etc.) and it will last all day, anywhere from 20-40%. Only devices that spank it IME are the Note/2 and the Razr Maxx. And that is to be expected though.

Headphones: They are crap, but really, who packages decent headphones with their devices? I am not saying this as an excuse. I rather think Apple would be best just to not include headphones at all. And maybe focus and making a premium pair to add on (better than the buds they have). Most iPhone users I know have a drawer full of "unopened" apple headphones because they are useless.

Thanks for your honesty. I had the IP5 and returned it due to the battery and screen size.

Camera has always been great in my opinion. Slo-Mo - eh whatever lol
My girlfriend has the IP4 and she's running iOS 7. I did not like the way it ran on that device.
I feel the screen needs to get bigger, once it is, I'll be back on board.
Battery life is just weird, others say they are having great battery life while others can't deal with it.
Headphones being crap is one I never heard of. If you're comparing to Dre Beats then I understand, but crap? A little harsh eh?

As far as the battery goes, yes the Note 2 lays a beat down on it lol I had the Note 2 and it can hold its battery very well. I think the S4 battery is pretty good as well.

IOS 7 - lots of improvements over previous iOS, couldn't really fault it - Shouldn't really be listed as other iPhones have this OS.
Fingerprint Scanner - much quicker and more accurate than I thought it would be

Comments in bold.

The battery could last longer if they avoid making it thinner and thinner all the time. e.g. if they keep it like the iPhone 4 thickness it will be a little "heavier" phone but with a battery that lasts way more.

The edge that 4G LTE on the 5S has is that it's a world phone. We no longer need a different phone for TMO, than AT&T, than Verizon, Than Orange, than.... you get it. Speeds are the same, sure, but the LTE on the iPhone is the best of (or on par with) any other phone to date.
