I had still been using the iPhone 6 Plus and the other day I had a mishap and the screen got shattered to the point it was unusable. I needed a phone for my work and couldn’t wait until new phones came out. I got the X on Monday at Apple store and I know I have 14 days from then to return the phone. I really like the X so far, but would it make any sense for me to return it and get the XS once it comes out in stores? I’m not interested in a bigger phone so I don’t want the Max but is there any point in going to the XS if I’m fully satisfied with the X?

Yes, considering they are the same price. It would be foolhardy, in my opinion, to not go for the better (newer) device. If anything, you are getting a more future-proof device at the same cost. Only inconvenience would be going through return process, backing up / restoring data, etc., but that's hardly an inconvenience to be honest.

As long as it’s available in the Apple store by September 24 I will do it. Can I just exchange it for the XS or would I have to return the X and then wait for the refund before I buy the XS?

Apple will process it as a return either way. If you have the available funds before the return is processed (takes a few business days to show up depending on your credit card/bank), I would just go ahead and purchase the XS first.

A. If you didn’t get the X at a discount price, then you would want to get the XS for better camera and faster chip at the same price. Slightly faster FaceID too.

B. If you can’t return it and wait for the 5-10 business days it takes before you see the refund reversal back on your credit card before getting the XS, then you may have no choice in the matter because you don’t have a back up phone from what I heard while you wait in the interim.

If B is the case then don’t feel too bad, you still have the same phone in your hand. X still has a great camera, a fast processor (A11), and beautiful OLED display.

Not to mention iOS 12 release is going to give a performance boost to the X as well.

Could always get the refund on an Apple gift card and use it immediately to buy the Xs...

I actually don’t need to wait for a refund. I ordered the phone on Apple and picked it up in the Apple store but when I checked out I chose the ATT installment program where they add on to my phone bill each month. Can I still return it? The guy at Apple store still said I had 14 days. I only actually paid for the sales tax.

You should be able to within your 14 days no problem.

Let us know whatever happens. Good luck.

Yep, same price, I would absolutely do it. And use the iphone upgrade program rather than the AT&T program.

Do it. You'll begin to regret it soon if you don't. The extra horsepower of the A12 and all its associated chips, the better camera sensor, the faster FaceID, the stronger glass, the better water/dust resistance ... all of that and more will give your new phone that much more extra life to it as opposed to starting with a phone that has nearly year-old tech in it already.

Haha jeez. I’m definitely gonna do it I just wasn’t sure how it worked with returning it since I agreed to the ATT 30 month installment plan. Do I just order the XS online for in store pick up on the 21st and also return the X on the same visit? I have til 24th to return it.
at this point I think you're too late for 21st pickup. But I'd call to get your questions answered.

if u like the one u got keep
if you like having the 'latest gadget' return it
mobile technology plateaued years ago so there's not going to be any big noticeable improvements
