I've been a Mac user since 1998 (when I spent Mac Pro-level money to get a PowerMac 9600 to do non-linear video editing, as we called it back then). And I've been a Mac portable user since 1999 when I bought a Lombard PowerBook G3. But I've never had AppleCare, since I never really felt it was necessary. I was generally tech savvy enough to not require support, and I've also never really had a significant hardware failure, with the exception of some swollen batteries. Plus, not having an Apple Store anywhere nearby makes having AppleCare less convenient.
But I did decide to get it for my 16" MBP. This isn't because I necessarily expect to encounter problems, but these newer computers are both more complex and less modular than they used to be, so the cost of repairs when it does go wrong can be quite high. And while I have literally never accidentally broken a computer or phone, I'm starting to think that I might be due, so the accidental damage part of the coverage is appealing, especially as I will be traveling with this machine. Since this is the most I've spent on a computer since that original PowerMac, I figured it was worth paying a bit extra to ensure that I can use it for the next 3 years.
