I just transitioned back to Apple. I have purchased a case, screen protector, fast charger and a pop socket haha. Looking to get into the Apple ecosystem, and would like recommendations on what to purchase first. I have Galaxy buds I can use for my work out or upgrade, I have a 70inch tv I can air play or get an Apple TV. I don’t have a computer but would only use it for work, my web browsing.. maybe an iPad instead?

Thanks

Pop socket

If you’re hell bent in buying something more then I recommend -

- An Apple Watch first.

- Still got extra money? Then get an iPad.

- Lastly an Apple TV. (If your tv comes with built in airplay feature then no need to buy Apple TV separately )

Benefits of a watch?
And okay on the MacBook!

Easy access to certain services such as notifications, Apple Pay, health stats, other app data, depending on the type of widgets the apps support, at a glance.

If you don’t have a laptop now then I don’t see why you’d suddenly need one just because you bought an iPhone.

I bought my tv in 2007 so I can’t stream to it so I had to buy the lightning to hdmi cable after I bought my case. I don’t have much use for an Apple Watch a plain G Shock suits me better and is what I prefer. I’d probably splurge on the iPad myself.

Yeah, I’m thinking an iPad with keyboard will do word documents, excel sheets, web browsing etc. and I can get it with sprint. No WiFi required! A watch is pretty much useless for me besides health. I was only considering Apple TV because it’s 4K, but I’m assuming my streams are too. Just grabbed some AirPods and a car charger today 😊

If there is a reason to get a MacBook over an iPad please tell me but I can’t think of one.

A MacBook will do more. It is self contained, as it already has a keyboard and built in stand. It comes in multiple sizes and speeds. It will complement an iPhone with its powerful macOS. You can sync documents and more to your iPhone with iCloud. An iPad is nice but still limited by its OS which is basically the same as what is on your phone.

I have all three, iPhone, iPad and MacBook. I agree with what was said above. An iPhone and MacBook are the “bread and butter” of the ecosystem. An iPad is the desert.

Also. I would suggest trying out Apple Numbers to see how you like it. To me it is so much better than Excell for what I do. It syncs between MacBook, iPad and iPhone extremely well. It’s a true pleasure to use.

Money burning a Hole in your Pocket?? :D

I recommend holding off for a while and seeing what you could really use.

I’ve had two websites in the last week not work properly on the iPad, but when I switched over to my Mac they did.

One of them (a school learning website suggested to us by my daughters school) wouldn’t let us drag and drop answers to questions. The other (just a toy stores checkout page) wouldn’t let me input a 16 digit number for payment. Each four digit box only took three numbers before moving onto the next box.

These may have just been poorly optimised websites, but regardless, I couldn’t switch to an iPad only future. Which is a shame, because I had seriously been considering that.

Yep for browsing a Mac beats an iPad hands down. Email. You name it besides drawing of course. Then you mentioned excel? Definitely not iPad. It’s amazing people even question this.

An Apple Watch for me is about notifications and me getting them. My phone is usually on mute. Don’t use any health features. Can glance at stocks pretty quickly. Useful for running in mornings as I leave phone at home.

Can also function without iPad and Airpods. My point stands

Yes but both AirPods and Apple Watch are accessories for the iPhone and I figured a person who hadn’t been using a laptop at all might get by with having an iPad for requirements related to having a bigger screen. Clearly the OP doesn’t use laptop specific features enough to warrant one just because he’s buying an iPhone.

In this entire equation, a laptop feels like an unnecessary expense to me.

A MacBook will do more.
It will/can also do much less depending on how you look at it.

I transitioned from MacBooks by Apples forced PWM. After a small learning curve, and the introduction of iPadOS, I’m fully converted.

LOVE my 12.9 IPP!! That would be and is my choice.

However,

If you code, work in IT or have to roam networks or some other headaches like that, then a Mac/PC will be a better choice

How so? I’m honestly interested in this point of view.

I have used computers for over three decades and it’s never been easier to browse on a device than on an IPP.

No fan, cool, and fast as heck.
