Just checked the same day web site.
The first part of my order in on the truck and it says delivery today! Thats the display and FCPE.
No status on the second part, the G5 :(
Hopefully by Wednesday :p

Mine is supposed to be here tomorrow :D

This is awesome because I dont have school or work! I cant wait!! lol

just curious...do new macs come with a mouse pad? lol i just realized mine sucks...

nope, at least none of the macs i've unboxed have. maybe they do sometimes as a promotion. When i recently registered my powerbook i got a free MacWorld Subscription for 12 months.

I'd prefer that than a mousepad..

cheers...

The long wait :(

I ordered my G5 Dual on 24th October, but am still awaiting it... Then again I should not complain as some people who ordered in August don't have their's yet.

I've heard in the UK that (according to the Apple Guy) a new distribution warehouse is being setup which is delaying a lot of orders. This would replace the one in Luxembourg which apparently slowed down a lot of orders.

I've got my 1Gb ram and 19" monitor all awaiting the new machine :( .

Come on guy's hurry up

Powerbook G4 666 um  plus one... :)

my best friend had a similar problem.......

we had his beautiful 23in HD display sitting on his desk for over a month before the computer followed. it was pretty sad......

but when the dual g5 arrived the wait suddenly felt worth it. Same can be said for me recieveing the Powerbook, the wait sucked but the joy of opening the package when it finally arrived made evrything better, although i have to admit the PB had the most interesting journey i've ever seen.

hope you get the system soon. cheers

but its in toledo the last time i checked fedex tracking, so it will be here sometime tomorrow :D

i wont be able to sleep - this is like christmas lol

My 20" display is here ! & FCPE.
My G5 is in Canada. On its way from Richmond BC. Should be here on Thursday.

It would be cool to plug the display into my PC, but don't have a DVI -> ADC adapter. Oh well.

SWEEET!

fedex just delivered my mac!!

im typing on it right now - this is awesome...so fast too!!!

my girlfriend is going to be jealous...and lonely too! haha

congrats josh welcome to the exclusive club of people who have seen the light :)

oh i love this computer!! its soo sweet.

just a quick ?...

when I install something...ive been just dragging the icon to the Applications folder in the finder...does that also add files elsewhere that I dont know about?

and by uninstalling them - dragging that icon to the trash - does that remove all other files, if any?

thanks for the help!

That is the brilliant thing about OS X. The simple install and remove of programs. There is no registry per se.
My understanding is that the programs are (not always) executable directories. So all the support files reside in the directory structure. The executable is also in this structure. OS X knows where to find it.
If you have multiple users, you can limit access to programs this way: users have a local "Applications" directory in there home directory. The applications that only they have access to reside in the this directory.
The usual "Applications" directory gives everyone access.
A user could test out an app before deploying by putting it in their local Applications and testing. If they want everyone to have access, they move the app (executable directory) to the global Applications directory.

Simply Brilliant !

There are probably apps that violate this paradigm.

Ordered mine on 27th October was due to ship on 3rd Nov, but has now gone from being assembled back to being reviewed!! No news from apple, except an email saying it 'should' ship in 2nd week of nov, since its still being reviewed (again), that leaves 2 days to build and ship, cant see it happening, cant get hold of apple on phone either 'sales support team is currently unavailable.'

Not happy. Would love to know when urs ships tho, as i guess mine shouldn't be too far off.

An old HIghschool buddy in Cardiff is having the same problem, He managed to get an anwser from Apple on his now late G5. They mentioned issues with a batch of video Cards. MAybe the same thing is affecting your machine?

Sucks having to wait, but believe me when you product arrives it will be worth it.

Still waiting for my Dual G5 & after 30mins on hold to Apple they are putting it on priority order - whatever that will do!
Did ask about conncting 20" display upto PC as i'd like to do the same, and was told to buy the ADC-VGA adaptor but they don't list them on Apple Store?!
Is this right and do they exist??

S.

Yes the adapters exist.
They are a cable assembly; DVI, USB &power on one side and ADC on the other (I think) Price: about $130 I think.

My G5 should arrive today :D
I won't bother with connecting my PC to my 20" display. I would like one of my PC monitors to "give up" and then replace it with a 17" DVI LCD.

Received my new G5 :D
Very cool, quiet ...

One issue, it doesn't seem to like audio cds. I can put in a dvd or cdrom and they seem to work fine, but iTunes or finder can't seem to seem audio cds I've put in.
Ideas?

Go to the Utilities folder in Applications, and open a program called "Disk Utility"

In there, look for the CD-ROM/Superdrive to be listed on the left side of the window, if it is there, then click it, and then choose "Mount" from the toolbar...see if that helps...

Also, are they copy protected?

Not copy protected.
The Mount button is greyed out.
It seems to know the size.
It's like it doesn't understand that its a audio cd.

Fixed. Ran Apple Hardware tests - OK, Re-installed Panther - clean install - fixed.
Lost some Apple install programs - not sure what they were. xinos or something like that.

Printing to a Windows shared printer, as Ron Weasley puts it "Bloody Brilliant" is the best way to put it ! :)

Picking up G5 from TNT tomorrow (Wednesday)

Well

After a rather interesting chat with Apple and TNT today I learnt my G5 is about 4 miles away from my house in a TNT depot.

So I'm taking the afternoon off to pick it up... I just hope the box fits in my VW Polo  any ideas?

Fingers crossed tomorrow is going to be a good day (albeit in about a week I expect to be laid off... :D cool time to play with my G5 :D :D.... :( then find work :( )

Well Mr Bush is coming up North East (England) soon. Should be fun...
