I use Nicecast to play iTunes Radio through Sonos. Works great. No Airport Express required.

The app costs $59. I think, for many people, it makes more sense to get an Airport Express or AppleTV and get the full benefits of Airplay. Of course, not every Sonos has an aux input, so this would be a workaround for those people.

I also found an app for ios called Whaale which lets you stream your music via airplay to multiple devices. right now you can only stream your itunes music and internet radio stations that they have added from all over the world. the developer told me they are working on adding more sources to their app as soon as possible.

the system sounds great, the whaale app keeps everything in sync so i am very happy with the sound.

i have speakers in the family room, bed room, garage and by the pool.
I just use Apple's Remote app to send iTunes music to any or all speakers.

Rogue Media also makes something called Airfoil (I think it costs $25) that will allow you to send any audio from your computer to any or all Airplay devices. They also have an Airfoil iOS app (~$5) that will allow you to turn on and off Airplay speakers at the touch of a button. While their remote app won't allow full control for apps like Spotify/Mog, it does allow you to pause, go back, go forward, and play with album cover and song information right on the iOS screen. When Spotify releases desktop "connect", you should be able to use the Spotify iPhone app to control Spotify on your computer and Airfoil to decide which speakers you want to use.

As I said, I rarely listen in more than one location at a time, so it is not something I use very often (occasionally, I will have all rooms getting audio during a party), but I can see how it could come in handy for some. If you have an iPad, you could also use an app like Splashtop Remote to give you control of your computer's desktop, which would give you direct control of Spotify or other apps and you can also choose speakers right from your desktop with Airfoil.

Well its not happening if your country doesn't have it 😉 I sign in to iTunes Radio USA from Canada because it's so easy to create an account. But for the others it's a pain and I like iTunes Radio much more. Plus I want Airplay for Apple TV etc.

So it's Canada that sucks balls.

uomftiger you're right, it is easy to stream to all sources from itunes on your computer, i just like the convenience of the whaale app because you just use your ipad or iPhone to stream the music...no need to fire up anything else.

also i mostly listen to internet radio stations (radio margaritaville) which the app stream's so it is perfect for my use

They are in a frenzy now trying to rework their whole system. New beta app and everything.

So you wrongly bought a product and now you are an expert on their inner-workings?

No SONOS is not reworking their entire system. They always have beta's going on, and alpha's. I have them.

AirPlay is supported as outlined on the SONOS page, requires an AE.

You can use AirPlay to an AE connected to a single zone and play it on ANY zone in the house or all of them. This is how I stream iTunes radio to my SONOS setup.

+1. This is the internet where thread starters open a thread showing their ignorance, blame a company for their inability to read and at the same time are experts of the product all at once!

I forgot to mention that Airfoil also has something called Airfoil Speakers that will effectively turn your computer into an Airplay receiver. You can then steal the output of that stream using their Airfoil device and redirect it to any or all Airplay devices. Personally, that is the way I would do it because it works with every app, but I keep a mac mini on all the time anyway, so I don't have to turn it on to make it work. Like I said, I almost never do this, so I wasn't even sure it worked. But I tested it today with Spotify's iOS app and Downcast iOS app and it does.

I am surprised they are letting the whaale app work that way. Rogue has said that the reason they don't offer it in their iOS app is because Apple won't allow it.
