I disagree with part of your post, and here's why:

As a journalist, I spend my day writing stories, online, etc...While I generally use my rMBP because it is faster, I have many times used my rMB...and it performs amazingly well.
Hmmm...I was just typing on a rMB and while the keys felt crisp and I typed very well on it, my impression was that after a while my fingertips would start to hurt. The keys just felt hard. But you say you type a lot on it. Your fingertips don't begin to ache a little after a while?
 
Yes to all 3, watch 4k streams on yt all the time and also torrent 1080p mkv files and they play smoothly

In my experience no, but I haven't typed a report / essay in a while
