People jabbing at each, online, and the phone hasn't even hit the streets. I guess it's because it hasn't that it's occurring but nevertheless.

"sounding smug" over a message board?... or.. "not fair because they have the day off"

C'mon guys.

So, I have a reservation for my iPhone for Thursday. When I called a few days ago, they said me and my wife's name was on the list, and that since I had a reservation, my phone would be here all day for pickup. Unfortunately, I have to work until 5:30 on Thursday and can't get there till 6:15ish, but the guy told me I should be fine.

So I go there today to pretty much confirm it, and the guy there told me to get there as early as possible because the phones are first-come, first-serve on the reservations and he doubted that Apple would ship them enough for reservations.

Honestly, that gets me mad that I reserved phones, and someone who didn't and will stand in line might take mine. I don't get why the stores don't hold everyone who reserved iPhone for the entire day and anything left over goes to people waiting. If I reserved, and my name is on the list, I should have a phone. Not the guy who didn't reserve and just had off that day.

Probably sounds petty, but just the way I feel.

i've been saying that since the day of the pre-order, and people are saying i'm trolling. Ya, I don't understand the point of us pre-ordering for pickup at the apple store if we have to go as early as possible to get in front of the people that did not pre-order. I ended up canceling that reservation with apple and bought it from at&t.com. At this point, I really don't care if I get it on the 24th or not anymore.

and somehow i got through at&t right after that :D

since you put your name down for a reservation you WILL BE HELD A PHONE, it just matters how many other people picked up their phones before you and how many phones they received.

NO ONE will be able to pick up a phone WITHOUT a reservation before you get yours. (with the exception of them having more stock than reservations, with which they will offer phones to walk-ins)

If they get 50 phones and had 100 reservations they cannot possibly make that extra 50 pieces of stock appear out of thin air. If you are the 51st person (meaning 50 people that had reservations picked up their phones before you) you are SOL.

What store, state and location otherwise I have to call BS or you were speaking to a mis-informed employee. If you have a confirmed reservation you will get it , period.

The email that you get when you reserve the phone clearly states in fine print at the bottom that a reservation DOES NOT guarantee you'll get a phone and that it's first come first serve. Especially with as insane as this launch day is going to be, anybody who thinks that they can just waltz into the store an hour before it closes and pick up their phone is in for a rude awakening I'm afraid. I can just see all of the angry threads now that we will see on launch day.

Unless you live in a remote area, you had best get there early if you want to make sure you get a phone.

Los Angeles, Century City store told me....

If you have a reservation, there will be a phone for you GUARANTEED!! She told me that as long as I come a while before they close, there is NO NEED to come wait in line early.

I double asked and she reassured me that there will be a phone if you have a reservation. "So, if I come in the early afternoon..?" "NO PROBLEM!".

There are only 222 US store locations, plus the Best Buy/Radio Shack/Walmart pre-orders. I would think each store would get at least 500 units.

It's not the stores fault people camped out overnight. The people camping out are fully aware that they might not be able to get a phone without a reservation. They could always tell walk-in customers that they cannot sell additional phones until the reservation numbers match the numbers of phones in stock (which they should have done the night before or when stock arrives); and that they are free to stay in line in the event that someone cancels a reservation, for duplicate orders, or more stock was to arrive.

99% sure apple has already said they are having pre orders and walk in stock. I'll look it up again but I also heard it floating around this site as well

Why is everyone so anxious to get it on launch day? It's a phone guys. Your 3GS is just as good as it was prior to the announcement.

I went to the apple store today in Bridgewater, NJ to ask the exact same thing. The worker there told me not to get up early and avoid the lines by coming in at 10 or 11, my phone will be there.

I'm actually going to do this. I have a reserved iPhone and will work a half day and then head to the mall. I guess I'll see, then I'll know.

Launch day reservations

If any apple stores have allocated all of their launch day stock to reservations (or even worse, over allocated reservations) then they surely have a responsibility to put up notices on their web site and in the shop windows "no stock will be available without a reservation".

Otherwise people have the right to be FURIOUS if they are near the front of e queue and find that they're all kept for people with reservations.

Spoke to the store I reserved at yesterday. They were very clear. Told me if you have a reservation that the phone will be held to COB on the 24th. They will have 2 lines, 1 for people without reservation and 2nd line for people with reservations. She also said they should have enough phones to go around for people without reservations....as long they to willing to wait.

A coupla things, I'm still rolling with a 2 yr old 3G and I have a vacation coming up very shortly and I really want the HD video.

Looks like you were anxious enough to grab a 3GS on launch day a yr ago....

Clearly states for a pre-authorization (Pre-authorization: A process you go through online after selecting the Buy Now option that asks you all about your AT&T account, what phone options and prices you have based on your account details, what data/text message plan you will be buying, and what store you will be going to. You receive an email confirmation telling you the next step is to visit your nearest Apple store to complete the buying process) is not guaranteed, but rather first come 1st served.

pre-authorization is not the same as a reservation

You say that all smug as if people weren't trying for HOURS to preorder

Some people chose to reserve them because they "wanted the chance to wait in line with other Mac fans." Which is just completely stupid, but enjoy that while the rest of us simply wait for the fedex guy to pull the truck up to our homes.

I planned to pre order but thought about the activation process. By the time the Fed Ex deliveries start rolling in Apple/AT&t/Best Buy/Walmart will have been selling/activating for 2+ hours. Activations could start taking a while at that point...

Yes, they would. If they were allotted a certain amount of phones for reservations but Apple over reserved them at stores, they would still keep their walk-in stock. They won't even know how overbooked they are with reservations until halfway through the day, at the earliest. Imagine having people camping out and then telling them you have no stock and they can go home.

You set a better precedent by telling the campers to go away than you do pissing off people with actual reservations. If a store doesn't have enough stock to fill all reservations, then they shouldn't have any stock for walk-INS. Reward the people with foresight, not the losers who can take a whole day to just sit in a line. And then at the end of the day if all the reserves didn't get picked up, sell to the people that can afford to waste away an entire day sitting in a line.

The worst activations of prior iPhones that I've had were done in either an Apple store or an ATT store. They don't get quicker access to the system than you do at home via iTunes. If you're new to the phone and using iTunes, though, I don't blame you for being a little wary.

Apple Store Employees DO NOT KNOW anything about the launch right now. They have NO idea how many iPhones Apple is shipping them. None. Anyone who tells you differently is spreading FUD. Its really sad when Apple Store employees start acting like BB employees, but that is what happens as you expand and you have to go deeper into the labor pool.

Apple will not disappoint you. If you "reserved" one you will get it if you p/u on Thurs. You do not need to be the first in line. They will hold your phone, so to speak. The only reason Apple says a "reserve" isn't a guarantee is b/c weather delays plans, traffic delays delivery trucks, and general crap seems to happen at the worst time.

Have a great weekend and stop worrying about all this crap. You will wonder why you wasted time thinking about it next weekend when you are playing w/ your iP4.

Didn't say that stores get you quicker access. Talking about sheer numbers of people trying to activate. As the day goes on, the more people are trying to activate. It will slow the activation process. Been through all 3 iPhone releases and the original and 3g took several hour to activate because of servers.

Now fast forward to iPhone 4, biggest sales day for At&t(10X more than 3gs preorders)=activation issues. My thought was to get in and out of the activation process as soon as possible. Longer you wait to activate, the longer the process will take....just my opinion

People with preorders and reservations are just screwing up the system and making it harder for other people to get phones.

Good job !

this has got to be the DUMBEST comment I have ever seen! people such as myself who were able to get pre-orders in are bucking the system for people who say I'm gonna go stand in line for 15 hours and that's the best way to go

I'm anxious because I sold my 3GS so I'd have the funds to cover the cost of the iPhone 4, I'm a poor college student who doesn't always have cash, and I really feel poor right now using this piece of crap Samsung Blackjack:mad: so yes I'm really anxious and I have every right to be. I feel lost without an iPhone lol
