Just Curious: Data Usage

I used 34.6GB this past month on T-Mobile. I don't watch movies but I do stream music from iTunes Match/radio while I am at my job. I do believe streaming is free while on T-Mobile though so that probably doesn't count.

Most of my usage is from graphic heavy websites, FB, Twitter and Safari of course. We have Wifi at my job but of course they have all the streaming/YouTube/iTunes type sites blocked so I just use data for everything. Been doing this for two years and T-Mobile always delivers and never complains.

I also have two Android phones on my unlimited everything plan. Total usage was over 50GB this month between three phones.

I'm just curious what some of you use for GB per month. Mainly referring to members that still have unlimited data. I normally was using between 6 to 11 with Iphone 4. The first month with the Iphone 6 it jumped up to 18 GB and now the second month jumped it up to 32

I think I might have to use wifi more, so verizon don't throttle my usage.

I'm at 28 g right now,not sure when the period ends. ATT unlimited. Interestingly, I got a throttling threat a few months ago,just days before the end of the period. Obviously I'm still sucking up huge amounts of data and not a peep. I suspect the government looking into the issue with ATT and others made them back off for now.

And no streaming music,very little video. Just web browsing,email and a few texts.

I'll watch HBO Go sometimes to get caught up on episodes. But it's only to get caught up. I don't use my mobile device to watch movies primarily. I much prefer to watch on our 52 inch TV.

Are people using mobile data as their primary home internet maybe? Or do people really have the time to stream Netflix and use that much data?

We're using around 500GB per month at home and even LTE is already kinda congested for home use so nope, not a replacement for home internet.

I rarely watch movies on the iPhone/iPad but I'd sometimes do marathon sessions of TV shows when I'm near the end of our billing cycle. Mind, I'm on the MSV 20GB plan but it's easy for me to see how others are able to use as much as some of the usage posted here.

People keep mentioning free wifi like it's everywhere but it's not. We certainly don't have free wifi at work. Or even if there was free wifi available, it could be too slow. At the last hotel we stayed at, free wifi was available but speed was a measly 200-500Kbps. If we wanted faster, it was an extra $15/day.

How do you survive on that? I'm not one to say that everyone needs unlimited data, but a 100mb plan seems too little.

Just using messaging apps, like iMessage and FB Messenger puts me over that in a few hours.

Same here. My provider offers access to public hotspots based on other subscribers’ base stations. I also get Wi-Fi at home of course, and at work, at university, at the shops and many other public places. I currently don’t use more than 200 MB on average, it just doesn’t happen. This together with a VPN subscription saves me a lot of money each month.

There are no unlimited data plans in my country, so I have to pay €20 for every 5GB. I can easily use 30GB per month.

That 500GB per month is on Charter cable. We have 100Mbps down. Meanwhile, AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile LTE all tend to max out at 30Mbps where I live. More often than not, LTE is in the 10-15Mbps range. If you read my post again, I mentioned specifically we don't use it as replacement for home internet.

Not necessarily. I can easily see how someone can use 100GB per month streaming news while at work or something. Heck, I can use 10GB in just one day streaming HD video.

Is easy to do just by doing things you do on a daily basis. I don't use my phones connection add my home Internet but I do leave WiFi off. I average about 1GB per day on my iPhone. That's not even streaming music or video

15G I use my phone off grid as my sole form of internet. Paid for the Verizon unlimited hotspot.
