I have had nothing but absurd headaches with getting the Photos screen saver to work with my iCloud Photo Library for years. (The Apple discussion forums are a worthless wasteland.) Every update, I presume, "oh, maybe they'll have fixed this obvious, major issue this time", and it amazing keeps getting even more problematic... until 13.3, when it now just won't work for me at all anymore.

So now I'm curious, does this function actually work for other people, and there's just something f'd about about my iCloud Photo Library that causes it to be so perpetually problematic. Or does this just not work for anybody, and Apple has officially just given up on fixing anything with Apple TV.

Thanks!

My iCloud Photo Library is working fine as screensavers on my Apple TV 4K.
Ive just gone through all the screensaver options and they’re all working as they should.

Good to know it's at least possible. So thanks!
Must be something that is somehow corrupted in my iCloud Photo Library, which ***** sucks, because there's now no reasonable expectation Apple will ever fix it.

Have you tried signing out of iCloud and signing back in again on the ATV?

Literally dozens of times. And resetting the Apple TV. Both of them. In every conceivable order. All of it. In every permutation I can think of. It's just a total mess that perfectly represents the sloppiest of current-day Apple.

I sigh above that I'm alone, but I'm actually not. Many people have this same problem (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/250692870) and although just that one thread mentions TV OS 13, I and others have definitely seen this going back to iOS 10 or earlier.

I can see my icloud photos but the huge problem for me is my atv will no longer show my large collection of high quality photos (not stupid iphone shots) that I used to be able to view and use as screensaver. My 2019 mini is latest Mojave, atv is 4k with latest software. Itunes on my desktop allows one to select a folder of photos to homeshare on tv. It's one of the main reasons I bought an atv years ago, and now- nothing!! Infuriating. Tried everything I can think of, but the folder/pics no longer show up in the “computer” setting on atv. o_Oo_Oo_O

I miss that you used to be able to point ATV screen savers at a website. Multiple websites actually. I had pointed mine at 500px, Flickr, etc., in order to get constantly changing, very high quality photography.

Personally I miss the movie posters screensaver that’s on the ATV 3.
It’s always baffled me why they never added it to the ATV 4 & 4K.

After looking at what passes for Apple “support”, this issue of seeing the photos you want to see on ATV is hugely widespread, and has been for some time, with no evidence of any concern on Apple's part.
They're too busy building new campuses, hiring more employees and spending millions on tv shows and movies to provide a basic feature that existed with the very first ATV. Thanks, Tim...
Can't wait for the next great version of iOS and OS.
If only there was an alternative.
