OK, to bring you up to date. The machine arrived on Tuesday afternoon, well ahead of schedule, so I had to scramble to order the extra RAM that I had intended to order later this week. I paid for overnight shipping ($5 extra) and then almost had a coronary today when it said that it wouldn't be delivered until Thursday. Well, it was delivered today, but not in time for me to do anything about it until after I got home from work (I work evenings mostly). So, I got home, put the RAM in, then, to my wonder and amazement, found that Apple uses TWO FOOT cords on their mice and keyboards. !!! So I called Walmart to see if they had USB extension cords...no. Called the next one, a bit further away, oh yes we have them in 3 different lengths. I thought that seemed a bit fishy, but OK I will go there to see. I get there and of course, no, they don't have extension cords, they just have regular USB cables. As I was leaving I noticed a USB hub sitting there and realized that would do the trick (only $15 more than the extension cord would have been, according to walmart.com...*sigh*). So then my credit card gets declined. WTF?!? So I used a different card.
Finally get back home, get everything plugged in, grinning from ear to freakin' ear. Turn it on, the fans kick up a bit, then settle down, and it's off and running. Gorgeous. 😀
First impressions:
1. Despite my plugging in an ethernet cable before starting the machine up, it wasn't able to connect to the internet to check my existing Apple.com ID to fill in the registration form for me. Not sure what that was about. That said, the internet did work immediately upon completing setup.
2. I love it. 😀
3. Software update & firmware update ran like clockwork, perfect.
4. After having a used a three button mouse for...well, for forever, I find myself trying to right-click on the single button mouse by using my third finger to click the right side. Obviously doesn't work. 😛 Finally getting the hang of control-clicking.
5. I love it. 😀 (yes I mentioned this before)
6. Not loving the way Safari jumps to the top of this textbox when I switch back to this tab from another one.
7. I keep hitting F13 instead of Delete. *sigh*
8. I'm in love. 😀
This thing is amazing...I'm blown away by so many things about it, from the inside of the case (perfection) to the way the machine looks in general (gorgeous) to the way it operates (perfectly). It's also unnervingly quiet. My PC, despite using a Zalman heatsink and "whisper" fans, was really really loud. I turned it off before starting this machine up so I could tell how loud it really was, and except for the initial bootup, it's almost silent.
I am never, ever going back. Well, I still need to get stuff off the old PC and it will be here for gaming, but this will be my primary machine from now on. I've used it for 20 minutes and I'm in love.
