OK, to bring you up to date. The machine arrived on Tuesday afternoon, well ahead of schedule, so I had to scramble to order the extra RAM that I had intended to order later this week. I paid for overnight shipping ($5 extra) and then almost had a coronary today when it said that it wouldn't be delivered until Thursday. Well, it was delivered today, but not in time for me to do anything about it until after I got home from work (I work evenings mostly). So, I got home, put the RAM in, then, to my wonder and amazement, found that Apple uses TWO FOOT cords on their mice and keyboards. !!! So I called Walmart to see if they had USB extension cords...no. Called the next one, a bit further away, oh yes we have them in 3 different lengths. I thought that seemed a bit fishy, but OK I will go there to see. I get there and of course, no, they don't have extension cords, they just have regular USB cables. As I was leaving I noticed a USB hub sitting there and realized that would do the trick (only $15 more than the extension cord would have been, according to walmart.com...*sigh*). So then my credit card gets declined. WTF?!? So I used a different card.

Finally get back home, get everything plugged in, grinning from ear to freakin' ear. Turn it on, the fans kick up a bit, then settle down, and it's off and running. Gorgeous. 😀

First impressions:
1. Despite my plugging in an ethernet cable before starting the machine up, it wasn't able to connect to the internet to check my existing Apple.com ID to fill in the registration form for me. Not sure what that was about. That said, the internet did work immediately upon completing setup.

2. I love it. 😀

3. Software update & firmware update ran like clockwork, perfect.

4. After having a used a three button mouse for...well, for forever, I find myself trying to right-click on the single button mouse by using my third finger to click the right side. Obviously doesn't work. 😛 Finally getting the hang of control-clicking.

5. I love it. 😀 (yes I mentioned this before)

6. Not loving the way Safari jumps to the top of this textbox when I switch back to this tab from another one.

7. I keep hitting F13 instead of Delete. *sigh*

8. I'm in love. 😀

This thing is amazing...I'm blown away by so many things about it, from the inside of the case (perfection) to the way the machine looks in general (gorgeous) to the way it operates (perfectly). It's also unnervingly quiet. My PC, despite using a Zalman heatsink and "whisper" fans, was really really loud. I turned it off before starting this machine up so I could tell how loud it really was, and except for the initial bootup, it's almost silent.

I am never, ever going back. Well, I still need to get stuff off the old PC and it will be here for gaming, but this will be my primary machine from now on. I've used it for 20 minutes and I'm in love.

Congratulations dude!!! 🙂 🙂 It's a great computer (I have a single proc 1.8 G5) that will serve you well for a very long time. And yes, they are impossible not to fall in love with!

Regarding your 2 comments above,
6. I used safari quite a lot. Even got my brother to upgrade from 10.1 to 10.2 just so he could use it. BUT... abandon it. Firefox G5 (get it here) kicks the everliving crap out of safari. I first installed it thinking that it might be a little better... no big deal... no, it absolutely flies. It's also perfectly stable, intuitive, and has all of the features I like (save for spellcheck...). Really, try it out. It also does not switch back to the top of text boxes when you change tabs. 🙂

7. You'll get used to it... it's a small price to pay. 🙂

Enjoy and welcome!

Thanks for the tips. 🙂 I use(d) Firefox nearly exclusively on Windows, haven't downloaded it for this machine yet but I will, thanks for the link to the special G5 version.

(BTW, I am tubedogg@mac.com on iChat AV...feel free to say hi anyone!)

Yeah tell me about it :/

On the subject of RAM, is MemoryToGo.com any good? They are about $100 cheaper than OWC and about $200 cheaper than Crucial, for 2 1GB sticks.
Use OWC. They're Mac-Centric. I don't really know MemoryToGo.com, they could be great. But OWC "does" macs. I'd trust them before even Crucial.

Cool tubedogg. Welcome! I'm new to Mac also and I've had my PB15 for about 10 months or so now, but I just ordered myself my first ever Powermac 🙂 Reading your message makes me drool - can't wait to unpack it and experience what you just have. Unfortunately for me, my order is showing on or before March 2...
