    Hi there,

The other day I picked up an o2 £45 contract 8GB 3G iPhone and it came with all the free minutes and stuff like that.

As I am new to the 'contract game' I need to just double check a few things (and yes, I know I should have worked it out BEFORE I got the phone).

If I have all these free minutes and whatnot, then surely I wouldn't be charged over £45 per month apart from various hours and stuff? I have the 600 free texts and the 1200 free minutes and am just wondering, do you only get charged extra if you go over these or do you get charged more than £45 anyway?

Sorry to look like such a moron.

Thanks for the replies I get.

That depends on your contract. Phone companies always find ways to charge you more than the base fee each month, so, expect additional charges to be added on. In addition to overages, you can also be charged for roaming, long distance calls, etc.

Only your contract can give you this information.

Ok thanks for that info. I use mine at home on the wi-fi quite a bit so surely that isn't taken into account for anything I download over it? Unlike 3G or whathaveyou.

That's correct. You pay your ISP for Wifi service, not the phone company (unless the phone company is also your ISP).

Ok so say I downloaded nearly everything including songs and podcasts, youtube etc within my house, and then when in public, I just checked emails and used apps such as facebook for iPhone whist connected to the phone network, is there any possibility of me going over £45 on my bill?

I know the extra minutes are supposedly free and so is the unlimited data, but are you only charged *more* in hidden charges if you go over your text limits/data usage? I know that the text messages are free until a particular time (or so I think)...

I've made some calls but I stupidly assumed they were all covered under my minutes, unless I am right or...

Sorry about this, it sounds like I haven't even got the phone yet as I seem to know so little. I asked the same questions at least twice in the shop about usage.:apple:

Stay within your minutes and texts, you shouldn't have a problem. Voicemail is free only on the o2 iphone contract.
I do believe however that should you call anything like 0800, 0870, 0845 etc you will get charged - which is why I am a fan of the website www.saynoto0870.com as they list the actual numbers for many companies (apple support for example)

    Kev.

Thanks Kev, you are a star. I don't even send 10 messages per day so (yeah I probably got the wrong package but too late now!!!) or make too many calls. I was told by o2 when I rang them the other day to avoid 0800 numbers, and I even got told when I tried ringing apple about something on that phone. A voice on their said 'this call will not be free'. I think that's great to be pre-warned so you don't have a bill the size of Jupiter.:)
