i much prefer the 6/7/8 footprint. I was expecting an iPhone 7 chassis with almost edge to edge screen.

Looking at my 7 and doing some rough measuring looks like if you got rid of the home button and made a notch like the X possibly could get a 5” screen.

Problem is if this can be done would the device be able to still get dual speakers and Face ID?

Yes the footprint would change a bit cause the display would actually be taller per se.

Also I wouldn’t mind not having wireless charging which you wouldn’t need a glass back resulting in the same weight as the 7.

Are my calculations correct? What’s everyone think?

I feel the same. I wanted to get the X until I found out the screen was smaller. I'm keeping my 7 plus for now.

Not necessarily smaller, just narrower. I can't wait to see what the Plus is going to be like next year and if they'll stick with the framework they've built with the X.

I went from a 6s to a 7 then traded the 7 for a 7+ and loved it for about three months. I really liked it but every time I would use my wife's 7 I would miss that smaller form factor. I was comfortable using both but just preferred the portability and one-handed use of the 7. I couldn't be happier with the size of the X.

I can’t use the X one handed and with one thumb with a case like the Otterbox Symmetry anywhere near the comfort of a 6/7/8. I can literally touch all corners of my 8 with my thumb with no problems.

To be honest, neither can I. The nice thing is there are ways to make it usable one handed if the need is there (reachability, left/right justified keyboard). It is MUCH more usable one handed than the plus model was for me and that's an improvement in itself.

I think it's just not your thing, which is fine, especially since you have new (& decent) contenders in the game now.

Pixel 2
OnePlus 5T
Razor
Galaxy S8

Yea just not my thing but I really like iOS much better although pure vanilla android isn’t bad. All my family and friends have iPhones and it’s easy to contact when we go overseas etc.

This is a forum. From what you are saying, you want a news site with no comments allowed.

Nope, not at all. That's just my opinion, which the forum allows for. I just think hypotheticals about that Apple could have or should have done are a bit tired. I'd rather focus on the realities in front of us. Nobody has to agree with me.

Actually I found that using the X 1 handed or with 1 thumb is the same as using the Plus and sometimes worse which is why I don’t use the Plus. Actually had a Plus couple of years ago and couldn’t wait to sell it and get a non Plus.
