I want to buy a AppleTV but I don't have a HDTV, I have an old Sony (I think CRT, well the ones that the guts hang out the back) Will AppleTV work with a non widscreen TV.... do I need to buy something so it will work?

    Thanks

It really depends on the TV. Apple basically says you have to have a widescreen HDTV. But, there have been people that claim it works on a CRT, non-widescreen, as long as the TV has component inputs and a widescreen mode.

There are also people that say it will work without widescreen mode, but the picture will be squished.

There are also people that say it works but it is only black and white.

And of course there are people that say it does not work at all.

I think if you have a crt with component inputs and widescreen mode, you should be ok. Other than that... it is pretty much hit or miss depending on the tv. The only way to know for sure is to find someone that has your exact TV and has tried it, or you test it yourself. It may work on one CRT TV and not on another. So it is not as simple as saying it does or does not work on ALL CRT tvs.
