Wow thanks for all the replies, you guys truly are great. Got a couple more questions if you don't mind...

I had some large downloads going but I wanted the monitor off while downloading so I put the iMac in Sleep Mode but the files stopped downloading. Is there a way to download files without the monitor on?

Is there a way to have my Cntrl key do what Command does for copy and paste?

Is there a fast way to jump to the desktop? Like in Windows XP you can hit the Windows key + D and it takes you right to the desktop.

Is there a way you can get the End key to take you to the end of a sentence like in Windows?

I installed the DropClock screen saver but it's not listed in the Screen Savers list. Is there a certain way to install it?

Thanks!

It's great that you are asking questions and many people on MR know their stuff pretty well but it's important that you take more time learning the computer rather than having the forum teach you step by step. By having the forum teach you Mac 101 you are not really learning.

I highly recommend you hang out in System Preferences. Here you will find the answers to most of the questions you have been asking.
It's easy to learn the Mac OS this way too because in System Preferences there's an intuitive search window.
For example, type in "Desktop" and anything related to the desktop will highlight while the rest will dim. Expose&Spaces gets highlighted which has the feature of hot corners to shut off the display.
You will get a lot of your questions answered this way but you should also get "OS X the missing manual" as some recommended.

I disagree with you there... the OP is only asking questions that many people who come from Windows usually ask. Using a Mac for the first time is a bit strange when it's a new OS to get used to. True, the OP could go searching around System Preferences or gets books or whatever, but isn't this forum all about helping Mac users?

I've been using my iMac for about 2 weeks and it's an awesome computer but I really cannot *STAND* Finder. I have a MyBook external hard drive hooked up and I have some files on the Mac HDD that I wanna move to the MyBook and when I highlight them all in Finder I see my MyBook listed in the Devices column but the folder I wanna move them to doesn't list, in fact no folders or sub-folders list, just the name of the drive and it won't let me just drag the files and drop them where I want (which I always done in Windows). I loved Windows Explorer cause it was so easy to use, you just drag and drop the files to where you want and you're done, but I cannot get the hang of this Finder at all. It's been nothing but a pain to use.

Would your external HDD be formatted in the NTFS format? Mac OS X can only read NTFS drives and not write to them. Blame Microsoft for this one. It's better to either use FAT32 drives or, if you feel the gamble is worth it, use NTFS with NTFS-3G.

Finder is way better than Windows Explorer, but you are not used to it and therefore it feels foreign to you. Give it time. Learn all about it.

Yes, you can drag and drop many things within Finder. Yes, you can select specific folders. Yes, you can put common folders in the dock or in the sidebar and drag files to them. Yes, you can open two Finder windows for easy drag/drop access between them. Experiment with the various options in Finder. Also, I'd recommend downloading some utility software for expanding basic system functioning, such as:

ASM http://vercruesse.de/software/asm

or

FinderPop http://www.finderpop.com/

among many others.

If your external HD was read/write to the Mac OS (NTFS 3G looks promising) then the HD would be able to be dragged and dropped to just like in Windows (where do you think Microsoft got drag and drop? From the Mac OS.)

Notice also the various ways of viewing windows in the Mac OS. Try each. Try the preferences for Finder and the View Options for viewing windows.

please let me know, that was some twisted sarcasm. Because... I can believe there are people out there who actually think like this, and it's scary.

safari is good, but when i want to upgrade it, it shows errors ?
