iPhone 12 Pro Just got a 12 Pro, how do I restore from an iCloud backup without updating the software?

I just went through this with an ipad. I backed mine up before going to the Apple Store and getting a new one. It wont restore a backup to a device running an older version of the OS than what the backup was running. In my case, i was on a public beta, which further complicated it, as i wasnt able to upgrade the new ipad to the public beta. Took three days to get it resolved. Good luck.

I don't know much about iCloud recovery. I usually restore backups in iTunes, so I don't upgrade the software.

Setup as new do the software update then do the iCloud back up, or iTunes if you have one.

You are going to be forced to update. Apple has it setup that way.

In order for the functionality to work an update will likely be necessary.

I was told you don’t have to as long as the backup has an older iOS?
