Hello!, I am from India, here we never really had options to upgrade the MBA's we got the base model with 4gb as standard. Past 3 days amazon here was running a sale and I bought a MBA 13 inch just yesterday and it should be delivered today.

My question is Apple India website already reflects the 8GB changes, should I bother with this extra RAM considering the newer models should take time to come to retail shops or try and return to amazon.

My usage will not involve any heavy duty stuff but mostly surfing the web, a bit of microsoft office, listening to music and occasional movies

What do you guys say ?

8GB is more future proof. If you tend to use your Macbook air over 3 years I suggest you return and buy the new one.
Otherwise, you can just use 4GB model happily.

If you're spending the same amount of money, return.

Otherwise if you'll be spending more for the spec bump model, it's the same cost as what a BTO 8GB RAM upgrade would have been anyway, so no point returning.

Return it.

With 8GB as standard, you're getting more for your money, since you won't be paying more to upgrade.

I'd return it too and get the 8G instead... or hang on a little bit to see what's coming up at WWDC...

As OP stated, they got it on sale from Amazon. It really depends on how much you saved over retail. If it will cost you $150+ to return and get the 8GB, I would just keep the 4GB.

^ It's 2016, there is no reason anyone should pay $1000 for a computer with 4GB RAM.
Fair enough. But $850 is a different story. I would pay $850 tops for 4GB. So as I mentioned, if the OP saved more than $150 off of retail, I wouldn't bother returning. If its anything less than $150, get the 8GB.

Same price and/or wait doesn't bother you --> return

More expensive and/or wait does bother you --> keep

Only you know.

Wasn't the 8 GB change for the 12" MacBook and not the MBA? No refresh for the MBA yet!

You should probably reread Apple's press release from last week. That way you can read the part where Apple discusses the RAM upgrade on the 13" MBA.

I'd return it. If you are the type that keeps systems a while, then all the more reason in my opinion.
