So my Apple TV 4 has worked fine. used to have it plugged into ethernet but have also used it just fine with wifi.

Got a new Samsung TV so I put the ethernet from my apple TV directly into the TV, planning to use the ATV with wifi. I have my ATV plugged into my samsung TV through their device box.

Now the only option I get for network is ethernet. there is no option to select wifi for network and I even reset my apple tv and still cannot get wifi to come up.

I'm wondering if this is because my ATV is plugged into the samsung and the samsung tv is trying to use the ethernet settings i have through the tv?

I'm a tad confused. if you want to use wi-fi, why use an ethernet cable at all? I have mine hooked to a receiver, receiver to tv (Samsung).
It's been awhile but the Apple tv should ask if you are using cable or wi-fi.

sorry let me elaborate. there's no ethernet plugged into the apple TV at all. the apple tv is connected to my tv via hdmi. when i go to network settings in apple tv it says it is connected via ethernet. there's no option to connect using wifi. I have no idea why it thinks it is connected to ethernet. I'm wondering if because my samsung tv is connected via ethernet if somehow it is setting up the apple tv to think it is connected via ethernet through hdmi? I have no idea.

Is the internet working on the Apple TV? One of the features of HDMI is Ethernet over hdmi. It was designed so all your devices could work off of one Ethernet cable plugged into your tv.

Sounds like yet another good reason to avoid Scumsung.

AppleTV isn't functioning properly....avoid Samsung....? Lol
[doublepost=1475237532][/doublepost]OP: Is the internet working? If not, have you tried going to Settings > System > Reset. To me it sounds like the AppleTV just isn't letting go of the ethernet connection.

With an AppleTV you can pick one or the other, if ethernet is plugged in you shouldn't be able to setup wifi. And vice verse if there is no ethernet plugged in there shouldn't be any settings for it. Try a reset.
