First, you just need to make sure that your DVD's and home movies are added to your iTunes, and then you tell iTunes to sync them to the TV. Just like an iPod.

Drop your photos into iPhoto and they'll automatically show up. Convert your DVDs to movies using Handbrake and your other movies to Apple TV format using Quicktime. Then drop them into iTunes and use the Apple TV settings in iTunes to get them to show up on your ATV.
