Just got my 13" MBP. Is there anything that I should do before proceeding?

    Fully charge/discharge the battery?
    Check for updates?
    Install specific apps?

Turn it on, setup user account, run software update.

The batteries now come pre-calibrated straight out of the box, just use it and don't overthink it.

    1. Install all updates to the OS.
    2. Install all major software and browser add ons (office/iwork, ilife, firefox, flash, shockwave, java, downloadthemall, flash block, adblock plus etc.)

If it's Lion make sure to setup iCloud and Find My Mac.

Thanks. One more question: I picked up 8GB of Crucial RAM when I got this. Should I install it before or after initial start-up?

    Pack it up
Ship it to me for a 36 month burn-in
After burn-in complete I will ship it back to you.

    :D

Ok, now for the serious answer!

Just turn it on and follow the prompts for setup.

    Then update software.

    Then enjoy!
