Warcraft III and Unreal Tournament 2k3 are the games I was gonna test imminently. Looking forward to it :)

Can anyone interpret the XBench results for me? Thanks!

please let us know how hot the model runs after 5 hours of hard work.. i.e video rendering etc.. does the model have fans? are they always on? how loud is the model at startup and then whilst in normal use? and as a last point does the 15 inch PB feel portable? or does it seem to big to carry around? thanks andy.

i'm looking forward to seeing how those games run, should be very good. :D

i don't really know how to interpret the xBench results, but here is a page that shows the results of a 1GHz Titanium PowerBook. hope that page helps. here is a page of results for a Rev. A 17" PowerBook Al. and one of the new 1.25GHz 15" PowerBooks running 512MB RAM.

because of the many different configurations of RAM, and the different versions of OS X (or maybe OS 9  :p ) that people might be using, i think that would have some effect on the results, but i'm not sure how significant that difference would be. there's a list of xBench comparisons that you should check out to get a broader view of the results. i hope all that stuff helps.

also, something i'd like to see, just out of curiosity, is a PSBench 7 test with the advanced 50MB test image. if you've got Photoshop 7 that is. ;) it just runs a set of actions on the image and times it all. then we could compare it with the PSBench 7 results at Chaosmint.com, althought they are for a G5 1.6GHz, there are some PC's results in there as well, so it should give us some idea.

Phatpat, you've been asked to do alot, hope your up to the task. thanks for being the ginuea pig! :D

i've heard the new powerbooks are not very strong, and will break when sat upon.

Can you please confirm this.

Also, believe they are only water-resistent, not proof. Can you check that too, thx

I'm told its flame resistant to 300 degrees celsius and can operate at near absolute zero, testing those factors would also be excelelent. I'm glad u finally got the machien phatpat...hope u like it... just in time for college right?

I've heard that Dells bounce when you drop them from a 10 story window and they can survive being ran over by a Mack truck. Would anyone out there with a Dell like to test these two factors for me? Thanks! :D

If you could run many tests on unreal tournament 2003 with high settings, it would be great!
Thanks!

It's very quiet on startup. The fan finally started spinning noticeably after a little gaming, but it wasn't too bad. Noticeable, but not annoying. Overall its pretty quiet machine. The hotspots are definitely right below the keyboard. You can't notice it when typing, but if its on your lap it will start to get hot. Not quite uncomfortable, but getting there.

Warcraft III and Unreal ran great! Warcraft: I maxed out all the settings and everything ran perfectly. Levels loaded in about 5 seconds. Ran perfectly.
Unreal: Didn't spend too much time on this, but set resolution at 1024x768 (had to have bars on the side :-\ ) One of the options was on high detail, character textures I think(?) and the rest were on normal. Ran splendid :)

If you guys want to tests out senselessly beating a laptop, I'll tell my friends who bought Dells to experiment

I'm leaving for college on friday, so being your guinea pig gives me the excuse to procrastinate packing a little more, :) I'm not complaining.

I'll get pics up once I find my compactflash reader....no idea where it went..

Yoy are one evil human being. ;-) Here I'm sitting without a dime in my pocket and a great desire to purchase a new computer even though i most surtainly haven't got the money. And then you come along telling me/us about how great yuor bp (my dreammachine) are - getting me even more h**ny for the pb.

But anyway; thanks alot for all the info. And big congrats.

i'm a switcher

Just have to say it: i'm a new switcher!

Incase Laptop Sleeve for PowerBook
PowerBook G4 15.2inch 1.25GHz
Backlit Keyboard & Mac OS
DVD/CD-RW
1.25GHz PowerPC G4
512MB DDR333 SDRAM - 2 SO-DIMMs
AirPort Extreme Card
60GB Ultra ATA drive (4200rpm)

So cool, just can't wait until it ships (14-16 days)

Alf.
:D

Thanks Phatpat your doing great work making us drool.
Mine will be a 1.25Ghz with 512mb on a single So-Dimm with a 20GB iPod.
Do you notice a big speed difference with USB2?

I'm in the UK and i have ordered one with student discount. Its 15" 1.25Ghz with combo drive (seems alot of people take out the superdrive), i have asked for 1 512 DIMM, its actually cheaper in the UK than Crucial! So i got the 1 DIMM for when i need to upgrade it. I got the 60GB HDD as well since i am not that rich and i'm planning on buying a DVD writer (maybe external HD) in the future so no need for the extra space.

I bought AppleWorks and a Tucano Sleeve with it, if it fits inside this brenthaven bag i have here than i am buying one of those as well, along with another battery. Now all i need is Sim City 4 + Unreal Tournament + one of those skins you can get for the PB, so you cannot get fingerprints on the laptop keys or mousepad.

Man, I'd love to get Sim City 4, but I need to buy all new software for OS X first since all I have is OS 9 and I don't want to be stuck under Classic all day long.

I want to get my 1,25 Ghz PB soon and my Creditcard bill ... lol ;)

When i read all these great quotes i thinking even harder to get a 15" AlPB.
If i would order one I get 1,25 GHz with 512 MB, 80 GB HD, Superdrive and Backlite kayboard. After receving it pull out both dimms and get two 512 MB CL2 Dimms in it. Does anyone want to buy my iBook :D LOL.

The 15" PowerBook seems like a very nice computer. It's sleek, and packs a punch for it's size and thickness...

The 1.25ghz G4 is a nice chip. I'd love to have a backlit keyboard (Why, Apple, couldn't you do that with the 12" PowerBook???) And I can imagine that that Radeon 9600 mobility kicks some major FPS...

I'd love to get one now, but I just got my 12" in January, so I'm going to have to wait... Hopefully I can get a job, and if I get it, I know it'll be a job I'll love :D I'll have to let ya'll know about that later, if I get the job ;) :p
