    I just got my first mac what are the basic add-ons/ downloads do you all recommend?

    What kind of things are you looking for? The base software does fine for most people.

    Google their functions but I'll list my favorite and important Mac apps.

    Vlc
    Flip4mac
    Handbrake
    Adium
    Transmission
    Firefox with the flash block add-on, and the streamingly vids add-on
    Dropbox
    Gimmelyrics (lyrics fetched for iTunes)
    Google notifier
    Perian

    Mactheripper

    Is that pice of software still needed?

    .zip files unpack easily with the built in unpacker or even the Unarchiver.

    I haven't come across any .sit files in a while anyway.
