Couldn't you go in and swap it within 14 days for the color that you want, or does that only work if you actually buy the phone?

Congrats, OP!

I will admit that I have absolutely no freaking idea why Apple decided to give away $900 worth of product, but if it's on the manager to decide to do that, then cool beans.

Apple is a multi billionaire company that is known for its outstanding customer service. Whether this is true or not, it wouldn't surprise me if they did give it away for free considering the hassle you were put through.

Wow almost the exact thing happened to me where I stood in line for 14 hrs for them to tell me that my which was reserved for me is not available.

Wish they had offered me a free phone.

OP just curious which store was this?

Awesome!

I thought I was doing good because my NEXT ATT-bought 5s had an issue the first day. Took it in, they had to remove and reinstate my IMEI number.

They reinstated it as a 2-year contract phone! Voilá! No NEXT payments for a 2-year contract phone and only paid sales tax.

Congrats, OP!

Because the manager in the store told him only he was affected and the fiasco afterwards.

And the OP exercised extreme patience not biting at every nibble they offered him and didn't fly off the deep end like a spoiled brat.

Civility goes a long way.

If this is true congrats. My order was delayed because of carrier eligibility when I was paying full price. They have me a free case that arrived a week after my phone came. I ended up buying another one on 9/20 and gave it to my wife when my silver 6+ 128GB came.

Wow, you are ridiculously lucky!
Apple has always had great customer service, at least when i've had to deal with them (They game me a free charger for my MBP), but I never thought they would give a free phone!

It's really cool that they worked so hard to fix their screw up.

Sometimes good and unexpected things just happen. Consider it good karma for having the patience considering you were thinking you'd have your new iphone on launch. Enjoy!

Sounds like another "Look at ME" thread.

Maybe someone saw all the other similar threads, bumbling on about bending, this, that & the other and decided to try a new slant on it.

I call BS on this, but OP-there's a really easy way for you to prove all of us doubters wrong:

Just post a copy of your $0.00 value Apple invoice/receipt.

No $0.00 receipt? No free iPhone.

Why are people believing this crap lmao

I guess for the same reason that people aren't believing it.

Who cares either way.

This is one of the most skeptical forums that I have ever browsed.

"Your phone doesn't have issues", "Your phone wasn't free", "You don't like your 6 plus, you are just trying to be cool", "You don't like the 6, you just couldn't afford the 6 plus", etc etc.

There are some good posters here, but some of you......

Maybe it is an age issue. Seems like the average member's age is around 17.

So I pre ordered my iPhone 6+ 64gb space grey thru apple and I decided to pick it up in store on the 19th.

Fast forward to the the 19th I planned on going to apple before work then decided not to, so I could avoid the early morning chaos.

So I get thru with work, on my way to Apple I double parked (not the smartest idea) and I walk into apple and they direct me to the pick up line.

I waited a few mins before some one helped me. She scanned my order # to get my iPhone. Now she was probably gone for anywhere 15-20 mins. Now after 10 mins I'm like what could be taking so long? After 15 mins i start to worry. After 20 mins I start to worry about my car being double parked. Finally she comes back and says " its a mess back there, I need your order # again " I give it to her and then at that time I'm convinced there's a problem.

So I go to the apple specialist in the front and tell him I need to check on my car, he asked what kind of car I tell him and he replies back with "that's you, there about to tow it" lesson learned don't double park, and thankfully it wasn't towed.

As I walk back into Apple the specialist greets me and says " i got bad news, we don't have your phone here " I tell her, that's not acceptable and that I would like to speak to a manager.

As she gets the manager I try to be calm and not rip him a new one because im pretty sure they gave my phone away to some one else.

Regardless he comes over apologizes and says " there was a glitch in the system that only affected you but what I can do for you is offer you a 128gb for the price of the 64gb". I'm like "sure that sounds like a great compromise, my only issue is how long until you get it in? He says "prob a few days" I said as oppose to a few weeks? He said he doubts that.

Fast forward to the 21st Sunday evening, i get a call from the manager at Apple. He apologized again and said if you don't wanna wait I can get you a 6 in the meantime and when your phone comes in we can swap it. I told him that sounds like to much work and rather wait a few more days.

A few more days passed by I get another call from Apple on the 24th, this time it was a female manager she said "I got some good news and bad news, the bad news is we don't have your 128 iPhone 6+ in space grey the good news is we have it in silver and gold. Once again I passed and said I'll wait a few more days.

So 5 days passes by and I haven't heard from Apple and i start getting frustrated that how could they possibly not get one 128+ in space grey in over a week.

So I call Apple myself and spoke to the initial manager that dealt with me and vented. He understood and offered me a 6 in the meantime until the space grey comes in, I declined yet again.

So today I realized that my at&t offer for the iPhone 4s expires in a few days for the $200 credit.

I called Apple to let them know that, however the manager that I've been dealing with was on lunch so I left my name and phone number having him to call me.

An hour and a half passes by and I get a "unknown call" and it's Apple however it's not the manager that I've been talking to its another manager and he says " we still don't have the iPhone you want, but we do have it in silver and gold, now I know you didn't want it in either of those colors but I want to make this right so you can choose either color and apple will cover it.

I couldn't believe it and asked him to repeat what he just said, he tells me " yes for FREE, apple will cover the charge"

Needless to say I was there at the store in 30 mins.

Good things come to those who wait.

Big thanks to Apple and the managers for the comped iphone.

Although it was frustrating, they stayed in contact with me thru out the process and ultimately went above and beyond to make there customers happy.

Happy indeed.
Thanks for listening.

Sure he didn't mean they'll cover the $200? cause thats how I read it.

maybe you'll be charged soon with a $200 discount?

There is one problem with this story. The in-store tills will not, under any circumstances, allow discounts to be applied to iPhones. Even management can't do it.

Not saying you're lying, just saying that what you said happened would be physically impossible for a retail store to do ;).

for the haters

and yes i always walk around with EXACT change :roll eyes:
