i literaly just got this thing delivered and it is sexy as hell!!
i went with the black with 1gb ram and so far its great
a little bit of "whine" but nothing that i wouldnt expect from a computer
i will post a review and some pics of this baby after i use it for a bit
ohh and anyone that is worried about the screen fear not! it is beautiful no glare for the user and its soooo colourful and bright.
keyboard is great easy to use. i find it is really easy to hit the right keys because of the spaces inbetween them.

because this is my first mac ever i was wondering if i could get some help in regards to downloading and installing an app
i downloaded firefox and after dooing so it placed 2 icons on the desktop
the first was firefox.dmg image and the other is what looks like a harddisk with firefox logo overtop of it...do these icons have to be on the desktop when firefox is in use? after deleting them firefox would not launch from the dock
thanks in advance

Glad you recieved your macbook!
You can unmount a delete the two files on your sesktop relating to firefox AFTER you drag the application in the one that looks like a hard disk to the applications folder. After this, unmount the file, and delete the .dmg file.

OK, for most OSX applications you download a .dmg (disk image) file. Safari will then mount this disk image on the desktop - that is the hard drive image you see. Open this HDD folder and you will find the application icon, drag it to your Applications folder then you can drag the original two files to the trash.

The .dmg file is what's called a "disk image". Think of it as a virtual hard drive or floppy disk. When you double-click the .dmg file, OS X will verify its contents (to make sure all the bits are in the right order) and "mount" the image.

"Mounting" an image is just like plugging in an external drive or a floppy disk or something.

Double-click on the HDD icon (the mounted image) and you should see the app. In most cases, all you have to do is drag/drop this to /Applications. From there, you can drag the HDD to the Trash (unmounting it) and delete the .dmg file. From there, Firefox is in your Applications folder and can be launched at any time.

Hope this helps.

Congrats on the purchase. I agree wth you about the screen - it's fine. Everyone comments "oh isn't the screen nice" - this is from people who use laptops all the time!

In answer to your question, installers on Mac OS X are usually in install packages or just simply drag and drop installers. Don't run things from the dmg - it's an image file. Drag the app to the Applications folder and go from there.

This same technique works for uninstalling - drag the application to the Trash.

I hope you continue to have a great Macintosh experience!

Do you think it could be a multiple of reasons why something whines when it is charging? My RAZR's charger whines when I am charging it. And if I hold the speaker to my hear when I am not calling someone, it whines. Is there something wrong with my phone?
EDIT: My X-box whines too!
