The new penryn mbp comes with that cloth?? Previous mbp's didnt, i did buy the mba but returned it and kept that cloth, lol.

That's a pretty sneaky move there on your part lol. Just think what would happen if everyone returned their MacBook Air's and kept the cloth. Apple would soon go broke.

Lol, when I had returned my iPod touch for stuck pixels, the customer service rep wouldn't let me return it because the cloth wasn't in the box. I hadn't done it intentionally (it's just a friggin cloth!) so I told her that I'd open up the replacement and give her the cloth. That's what we did. I guess we know why the stock has been down so much over the last little bit...machines are getting returned without their cloths and Apple just can't keep up, lol.

I kept the mini-dvi converter, cloth and the little special bag they put the mba box in. LoL. Well actually I forgot to put the mini-dvi back in the box :D

Jokes aside, this maybe more usefull than I thought first.

I just bought my first MBP so I have no experience with the behavior I'm about to describe, but some of you may confirm if it exists on Apple laptops too.

I had several Fujitsu-Siemens laptops and all of them eventually had the screen scratched by the keyboard ! When closed, and maybe under a a *bit* of pressure in a backpack, the keyboard seems to be in contact with the screen.

And I'm talking about keyboard patterns on the screen, not just a small scratch...

I guess inserting the cloth on the keyboard for transportation may help preventing this issue ?

Again, I have no idea if the issue exists on the first place with Apple laptops.

Don't worry about it. In a year or so you will need to pay 19$ for the cloth when you order your laptop.

Then I better start ordering mbas soon! :D

Concerning keyboard marks on the screen, I have read about such problems sometimes. However I have travelled with my PowerBook in my backbag almost every day for the past 3 years with zero screen protection and my screen looks like new. No marks or anything.

I had the opposite experience with my previous macbook. Even with a screen cloth the keys would press against the screen, smudging the screen a little from the not so clean cloth.

I still use the white foam to put between keyboard and screen on my MBP. It's even more important to have the trackpad covered since it's placed where potential pressure is most likely to occur.
