I really thought Apple would use the ENTIRE screen for pictures, videos etc. I’m very disappointed that my camera space is so limited. For 1500.... and 10th generation, I’m not amused!!!

There’s more.... but I’m too upset to type!

Is there anything that really bothers you about your new purchase?

Only thing is face iD. A lot of the times I just want to check my notifications not unlock the screen by looking at it...

Other than that....nope

Netflix uses the entire screen... YouTube doesn't... Doesn't bother me

You want a camera sensor with such a wide aspect ratio?! Ew I’m so glad they didn’t.

Also you have to realize that the only way you can get videos to fill up the whole screen is to stretch and/or zoom them. These edge to edge screens are a different aspect ratio than other phones that were 16:9.

You’re wrong OP. The phone is great.

Pinch to zoom on YouTube.

You can check your notifications & then by not swiping up your phone will auto-lock again in 10 seconds.

Pinch to zoom on YouTube.

For many that creates a bigger problem where more content is cropped from all four sides.

It’s YouTube content, not a masterpiece.

How exactly would an 18.5:9 aspect ratio full screen be used/helpful as a viewfinder when it takes 16:9 photos? To display content outside of the photo? The gripe makes zero sense.

It's a question of the aspect ratio the camera takes pictures and videos at and the aspect ratio of your screen. By default Apple will make sure you can see the entire picture without cropping, but you have the option to zoom in if you'd prefer.

I knew that would be how it worked so I'm not disappointed. So far I love my new Max!

Things are going to be optimized for this. The good news is, Apple is on this, and so ar content providers.

As far as developers go, if your app doesn't run right on most devices (the new Max for one), you had better fix it, or it's bye, bye. This can be a motivation :D

Phones are not exclusively designed for video content or photography. If they were, then we would not have the current aspect ratios that many phones are using. To that end, I am glad. I do not want video or photos in the iPhone's landscape ratio nor do I want a phone that is any shorter. I pretty much use my phone in portrait only (as I suspect the vast majority do), and I appreciate the tall ratio that allows me to consume more text vertically.

And how did you not know this? It was beaten to death last year when the X was released.

I’m coming from a X. No real wow factor for me. I anticipated my X experience on a bigger screen and that’s what it is. First plus size phone for me. I like it.
