Just upgraded from my old MacPro with OSX 10.6.8 to the latest iMac. With Final Cut Pro X 10.1.5 on the horizon should I wait to buy until it comes out or would the update be free to install if I install 10.1.4 now?

Thanks in advance for you help.

No I wouldn't wait at all. It's not a major version number so Apple won't charge for the update, and there's not even enough history to determine if Apple would even charge money for a major number revision because we're not up to FCP XI or Logic Pro XI yet.

But for point releases? No, Apple won't charge extra for that.

How do you know that we are far off from a major release with new version number? I know people who bought Logic 9 days before Logic X was released and there's no upgrade pricing.

No reason to wait, get it now. Version is 10,2.3 now.

Lol, wow I didn't even know either. I'm not even sure how I came across this thread. My guess is I saw it at the "Similar threads" down below. But that's what happens when I peruse Mac rumors late at night after a heavy night of drinking.

My apologies!

Every update to FCP X so far has been free. I don't think Apple is going to change this anytime soon. They have been putting major new features in point releases.
