This is a useful guide, especially since Apple provides such minimalist guidance for its software and hardware.

I'll have to check this out once I get iOS 15 installed on all my devices but I wonder if the Recovery Contact feature is vulnerable to SIM swapping and port out attacks. In addition, I think I'm going to wait on transferring all my Google Authenticator codes to iOS Passwords until there's more clarity on if there are any risks in having 2FA autofill coupled with Password's tight integration into the operating system.

Is SIM swapping an issue with the new phones using eSIMs?

I too would like more information on how much testing and hardening went into the idea of auto-filling 2FA especially with different system extensions like keyboards and the like. I would hope Apple has their bases covered, but it would be wonderful to get clarification!

The “Did you” is implied.

Sort of like when people say “Lost? Try Hare Krishna.” The “Are you” is implied.

Obviously the English language is malleable and ever changing and slang abounds! However, what you said is not accurate. If you drop the did you, then the past participle is the substitute and you conjugate the verb to make the sentence have the proper meaning

Also, with your "lost" example, you changed tenses. You are now talking about a present tense which is different from the headline which is referencing past tense. You would not conjugate "lost".

As I said, you can make anything into slang, but I really don't think that was the author's intent.

whoa... so now the obsolesce things spans ALL devices.

I still have some old devices I hang on to (cuz I can). Guess I won't be using this feature unless/until I update my whole stable of iPads...

I know conspiracy guys would jump all over "why" Apple would make this requirement, but from a security standpoint, they have to ensure that the devices are able to be protected enough to not allow hacks around the system and thereby compromise the account. From that standpoint I get the limitation. HOWEVER, I also could argue if they weren't focused on people upgrading equipment then they could have a feature to disable older devices from participating in the new feature or disable those devices from having anything to do with account modification. So I believe (I might be wrong, I am not a security master guru) they could add code to work around the limitation. So both sides of the coin. Luckily I don't own any devices old enough not to qualify for the feature :p

Very helpful guide. I'm most interested in playing around with the different focus modes to see what works for me.

If the "Find My" left behind alert works for all Apple devices, why does "Find My" say my series 6 watch is not supported for being notified if left behind?

Edited to add: Never mind. I had to restart the app and then under the phone, it now says it is enabled for the watch while the watch page still says it isn't supported. lol I guess it is doing that because the watch is paired with the phone.

Hmmm…..I can only enable left behind on my iPad. If I try to enable it on my M1 Mac it says it’s not supported
I get “not supported” for all my devices other than iPhone. They’re all pretty new.

Edit: restarted the app and working now for everything except MBP and AirPods.

Did anyone else lose all of their AirTags with the update?

I got an alert that there were AirTags moving with me, but it turns out they are just my keys. So I went to the “Items” tab in the FindMy app and all of my items are gone!

I just can't figure out how to turn on Do Not Disturb on my iPad without it turning doing the same over to my iPhone. I don't want Do Not Disturb on on my iPhone... I want it on on my iPad only - basically forever - because I don't want double notifications and dings.

ok, so playing with this focus feature. is there really no way to 'select all' when it comes to allowing notifications?..

i think you have to turn off "share across devices" in the 'focus' section of your settings on your ipad.

Some apps were "hanging" on my end. After ios 15 install.

Went to settings > battery. Mail app was constantly running in the background, even though it wasn't running...again sucking up battery. FindMy app also.

Hard reboot seemed to have cleared this up for now.

I’d go against setting up private relay asap because of how it might interact with web servers and such. Several games I play wont work anymore because of it, and some websites may take too long to load, does not load properly or never load at all. I leave it off since beta 3 and never turn back on. Thankfully apple is not evil enough keep turning it back on every time I restart my device, yet.

Pro tip- if you’re having issues with a feature, restart your device. I know, I know, that sounds like 1998 tech support but even in 2021 a good restart is computer troubleshooting. 😁

I think a SIM swap enabled by a corrupt carrier employee or by a socially-engineered call center rep can still happen. But, as you observe, the risk of losing control of your phone number through somebody stealing the SIM card out of your phone probably is eliminated by eSIMs.

Mail Privacy Protection prevents email senders from keeping track of whether you opened an email, how many times you viewed an email, and whether you forwarded the email. It also strips your IP address and specific location for further protection.

But we will scan your photos and send them to the police 🤣 🤣 🤣

What use is iCloud relay if I have VPN

I didn't expect it but the new safari tab setup is really good, felt pretty natural immediately to me. Unexpected bonus :)

Really. I can’t open safari again. Response: safari quit unexpectedly I don’t know what to do! Well I scheduled a call with apple support tomorrow though

For the first time in since 2008, I am not excited and just forgot about iOS. Not updating my devices anytime soon.
