I had to pull it, it is driving me nuts. I am in the process of switching to the Hitachi 500gb 5400rpm. I am posting that update in another thread. I pulled apart my simpletech drive and going to install this drive since I already had the drive and not going to cost me anything to upgrade. I am zeroing out the data so I can return the scorpio to best buy.

I put the 320 scorpio black in my MBP, too. It is faster but does vibrate. Since it sits primarily on my desk it doesn't bother me. It actually feels kind of good in my lap if I position it just right.;)

Hahahah I totally know what you mean *wink wink*.....

You did not insult me at all! I knew about their prices and thanks for pointing it out for someone who might not know. I was just telling you my plan was to buy from best buy since i can try and return same day if necessary. For something like this, much easier and quicker to handle in a store. I was pissed that Best Buy would not match prices from brick and mortar stores that are not in the local area. So someone in new york can get prices matched with J&R, but not someone in another state. I think this price match is unfair considering that Apple matched the eGalto website and Best Buy would not match for me. So I am going to work around it.

I am going to keep the one in my laptop, package the newegg and return with receipt to bestbuy. I am all about saving money....

To be honest you are expecting too much by expecting BB to match a store from other state. All retail stores match locally. The reason why Apple matches Elgato is because Elgato is in the San Francisco Bay Area and Apple's main retail store is IN the San Francisco Bay Area and Apple's corporate headquarters are in the Bay Area so that's considered local.

Most brick N mortar stores only match locally and hardly ever match "online only" stores.

Is there any 7200rpm drive that doesn't emit a low humming vibration in the new MacBooks?

I'm still trying to decide if this vibration is a flaw with the HD or the Apple aluminum casing...

Originally, I had a MBP with a 7200rpm HD (BTO) and it suffered from the same vibration. That said, it also came with a host of other defects, so I don't know if the vibration was normal (I returned it, obviously). There are no demos in the Apple store with the 7200rpm drives, so it's near impossible to do direct comparisons. Right now, the vibration issue is preventing me from making the jump to 7200rpm. I think I may just buy an SSD when SL comes out (provided I don't have to sacrifice an arm and a leg).

I just put this drive in my 2.4ghz alum. macbook.
there is a noticeable increase in noise and vibration but the drive is no doubt much faster.

coming from the stock toshiba 250gb 5400rpm the scorpio black is a very nice upgrade.

here are some numbers:

boot up time went from 45 seconds to 25 seconds. timer was started from button press to login screen.
xbench score for HD went from 39.11 to 70.22
HD space went from 250gb to 320gb ;)

you also need to keep in mind that the cache also went up from 8mb to 16mb. most people focus on the rotational speed when the cache should be considered also.
