There are many performance tweaks in cydia. I use lockinfo and love that. wifi hotspot is useful, whichever one you choose. I have TetherMe. Using Winterboard, you can theme it. Synchronicity allows use of phone while syncing. SwipeNav allows swiping to go back-maybe my favorite as i hate how the back button is as far away as it can get. SleepFX can give you cool animations-like the nexus S off animation which looks like an old CRT turning off. Fakeclockup makes transitions from screen to screen faster.
That's just a start.
