Got any input on the problem I'm having?

It isn't aproblem per se. The MBP has pins for grounding IIRC and the one in the area you mentioned sometimes makes the noise you hear. There is an entire recent thread on this forum about it with photos and explanations. Don't worry about it is the general consensus from what I read.

Oh, and as for internal sound cards, pro, semi-pro, or consumer, don't EVER expect a three dollar internal sound chip to yield decent audio. Get a USB audio interface and you'll be in much better shape. There are hundreds to choose from for your usage.

Haven't read the part where it ISN'T a problem, most of these posts are just people having the same issue.. doesn't really clarify what this is.

I understand getting a soundcard is the best option, but when I plug in a midi keyboard and an external hard drive..there goes my 2 usb ports

Posts 18,19, and 30 in the referenced thread clearly explain what the noise is, and that Apple considers it "normal." You can always try taking it to an Apple store and asking them to address it, perhaps by tightening some screws.

As for your ports, you have a vast number of options. Everything from hubs to docking stations (via TB) and/or external audio interfaces with tons of inputs/outputs, including midi. You can spend anywhere from fifty bucks to 1,500 depending upon what you want. Check out B&H Photo/Video/Audio, Sweetwater, Musician's Friend, Sam Ash, etc. You can get a TB docking station (for all sorts of port expansion) and an audio interface with all sorts of ins/outs and midi for less 800 bucks total. That way, you've got plenty of i/o and bypass all of the inherent interference within any computer.

Problem solved. I don't do midi, I can vouch for the Motu. Used one for five years and it performs flawlessly.

PS - I've done tons of multichannel audio work using the Motu on an ancient 11 inch MackBook Air before getting the new rMBP 15", so I seriously doubt you'll have any problems with sufficient horsepower.
