Quad core has been around for a while. So have high end GPU's. The real question my dear friend is who actually utilizes the computer it is capable of being that buy them?
.
I'd take a shot at answering this. Anyone who owns a modern DSLR, shoots RAW and uses lightroom or Aperture or any RAW conversion software. Which is actually quite a significant number of people.
My 7D's 25 meg RAW files brings my 13 inch late 2010 2.4 Ghz C2D MBP to it's knees easily. Even on my 27inch iMac with i5 inside it's still not as fast and I'd like it to be.
And considering how many people use DSLRs now I don't think it's insignificant number of people who can use all the power provided by the newer MBPs. Not everyone who owns a mac can afford a mac laptop and a desktop. Or a mac laptop and a PC desktop. So the more powerful the new MBPs are the better I say. And for some people the value proposition is there to sell their barely used last year model and get the newer ones. For me no I am not going to upgrade because I need the power, my laptop's only needed for occasional heavy lifting so the cost is not worth it. However, I can't say I am not tempted as one of the item on the new feature set would allow me to do some of my day job stuff at home.
