Quad core has been around for a while. So have high end GPU's. The real question my dear friend is who actually utilizes the computer it is capable of being that buy them?
.

I'd take a shot at answering this. Anyone who owns a modern DSLR, shoots RAW and uses lightroom or Aperture or any RAW conversion software. Which is actually quite a significant number of people.

My 7D's 25 meg RAW files brings my 13 inch late 2010 2.4 Ghz C2D MBP to it's knees easily. Even on my 27inch iMac with i5 inside it's still not as fast and I'd like it to be.

And considering how many people use DSLRs now I don't think it's insignificant number of people who can use all the power provided by the newer MBPs. Not everyone who owns a mac can afford a mac laptop and a desktop. Or a mac laptop and a PC desktop. So the more powerful the new MBPs are the better I say. And for some people the value proposition is there to sell their barely used last year model and get the newer ones. For me no I am not going to upgrade because I need the power, my laptop's only needed for occasional heavy lifting so the cost is not worth it. However, I can't say I am not tempted as one of the item on the new feature set would allow me to do some of my day job stuff at home.

My laptop's for occasional work. Plus my real work isn't photography or graphics, and they give me the latest gen MacPro for that :)

I don't disagree with the statement "So the more powerful the new MBPs are the better I say. And for some people the value proposition is there to sell their barely used last year model and get the newer ones."

If I had a direct reason to upgrade... I would. But, I don't. Mine works just fine and does what it needs to do when I press a button. It's like magic.

I always look forward to each update Apple brings. Doesn't mean it means whip out the wallet though. When I see something that really is game changing "for me." Then I will upgrade.

@OP I was thinking if money isn't an issue...that sometimes buying new has its advantages.. The main one is that overall performance is better.

Since owning a Powerbook G4 I've noticed the same 3 issues that PB and MBP have had. 1. LCD screen 2. Logic Board and 3. battery/keyboard. If Apple has made improvements with better performance in those areas with the MBP then I'm buying a 2011 MBP.

@cotak nice analogy. I want to upgrade my Nikon D90 to D7000. The D90 was the 1st of its kind and hopefully Nikon has made improvements. IQ is definitely better in the newer model.

However I do like the idea of swapping out my battery on my Unibody MBP even if I only get 3-4hrs battery life

I Agreed with RiCEADDiCTBOY. I'm coming from 15" i7 AG Macbook Pro. I thought about it and my needs are met with my MBP. I use RAW files in photoshop CS5 and bridge CS5 and its perfect for me. would I like to get the new one heck yes but what I have now is fine for me.
