Matte is an option. Glossy is stock, but matte is most certainly an option when ordering. No price difference.

(Regardless, I put in an order for a 15" refurb matte)

And..... you're wrong!

Did I mention I just asked an actual person from apple... like on the phone... just now?

edit: He told me this after I mentioned that lots of folks were not happy about glossy only on the new ones. He told me straight up that matte is a BTO option. Of course an apple employee could very well be lying, as he has so much to gain right? :)

edit 2: Perhaps it is a phone-order BTO option?

or he/she is just plain stupid, which is probably more likely

The phone representatives probably don't know anything about the MBP's. Probably not much more than we know.

here's the thing:

it's very unlikely not to have a " matte screen " as a BTO online..

then have it as an option when you talk to a " person" on the phone?

again.. APPLE lost me in translation..

am i dreaming?? or better yet having a nightmare right now?

ok, for the sake of discussion let's say you're right!
can i get a BTO of removing the ugly black bezel as well..
and the chicket keyboard replaced to a normal one?

oh wait.. it's better i get the previous generation

Look, I have nothing to gain from posting this. In fact my purchase of the refurb should show that.

It is what I was told. If I/he is right, then here's to the forthcoming egg on your faces.

Most of the employees at Apple stores are pretty clueless with new releases. He was probably not even aware of the new MBPs until your call, and from that point he just assumed that nothing had changed with the display options.

This was a direct call to 1-800-myapple, not one of the retail stores.

When I bought my white iMac, I had a lot of problems. This was right after the new glossy iMacs came out.

The logic board on my iMac ended up being replaced twice and was in the shop for a third (after one month of use). I called someone at AppleCare to try to see if I could have a NOS white iMac.

The guy (who was nice) offered me a brand new aluminum iMac. I told him that the whole reason I bought the white one was because I didn't want the glossy screen. His response: "Why didn't you just say so? We offer that as an option."

Me: "Uhh. . . are you sure? I mean I look all over and all I see are glossy iMacs."

Him: "Well, let me check to make sure."

Sure enough, there was no option. I ended up trading it back in here at school for another white iMac.

In hindsight, he may very well have been looking at the 17" models, which have/are not updated with any new release goodness.
