I just opened my MBP and I found this black gunk on parts of it... it wiped off pretty easily but on the top of it there's one small scratch that isn't going away. Should I worry about this? I didn't even touch it and it had a scratch on it. It's very small but it still really bugs me. It just bugs me that I just turned it on and there's already a scratch.

I would contact Apple and arrange for a replacement...... Unless you're buying a used machine, or maybe a refurb, there's no reason to accept cosmetic blemishes......

I had some black gunk on mine near a usb port. it wiped off so I wasn't worried but for a scratch I definitely would have went back to apple.

Simple. Take it back and get a new one, there is no way you should accept an apple product that isn't perfect.

Depends how bad it is. If it's hardly noticeable and everything is working fine, I'd keep it. Chances are, you're going to end up with a scratch or two somewhere around the computer whether it be the lid or bottom of MacBook Pro. I take very good care but I've already had minor scratches.

I actually had a little black stuff on mine too. It easily came off though and didn't leave any scratches.

What model do you have?
Mine is the 13".

This situation is why when I buy my next super expensive laptop from Apple, I will request that I open it in the store in front of a salesperson. That way, if there is cosmetic damage or dead pixels I'll get it swapped right then and there.

That's a good idea, although it does ruin the fun of opening it privately so you can go OooooOooo :D

Out of a total of 5 MacBook Pros I went through with different screen problems since last Thursday, 3 of them had gunk/dirt on the alu case and some of them had smudges on the screen

I would take it back; a cosmetic flaw is a flaw, nonetheless.

Habitus :apple:

Mine had little scuffs on the corners but wiped right off.... the macbook isn't that pretty all scratched up....take it back!!!

SHOW US A PIC!!!!

Take it back; odds are Apple will blame some other issues on the scratch say you abused the machine.

I ordered it through Amazon and CS said they'd replace it for free (Amazon is pretty generous with their return policy...)

Do you think I'm being too anal about a 1cm scratch?
