I could not pass up the deal on B&H photo. $2,049 for this model:

  • 27" Retina 5K IPS Display
  • 5120 x 2880 Screen Resolution
  • 3.3 GHz Intel Core i5 (Skylake)
  • 8GB of 1867 MHz DDR3 RAM
  • 2TB Fusion Drive
  • AMD Radeon R9 M395 GPU (2GB GDDR5)
I also purchased a MiniDP to DP cable so I can use my dell Monitor as a 2nd screen. Crossing my fingers there are no issues! First time owning a Mac, as like a lot of others, I have wallowed in the Windows world since I can remember.

Thanks! Out of curiosity, are you using the Magic Mouse 2 and the Magic Keyboard? Just wondering, on the both if the keyboard sits too low, it appears you can't prop it up at all. Also, do you like using the mouse or have you replaced with another mouse? Thanks!

I have the same model as well. Mine came with the Magic Mouse 2 and Keyboard. I did purchase a Razor Mambo mouse and Das Professional wired Keyboard for playing Tombraider. It is nice gaming mouse and keyboard, but I like the minimal look and no wires feel on my desk. I switched back to the Apple but recently purchased the Trackpad 2, I love this thing. I have both the mouse and Trackpad on the desk both can be used same time. I am using the Trackpad 95% of the time. It is a splendid device.

Das Keyboard is nice as well but its big and you have the wire running up the middle to the back.

Congrats. I ordered the same model as well as 32GB of RAM. I haven't had a desktop computer in about 15 or so years. But I'm starting to need a bigger screen and more storage. So instead of doing the very expensive SSD swap in my 2014 rMBP and buying a 5k monitor, it's about the same price to just buy this, then I still have my MBP for taking on the go.

I'm also considering buying the track pad. I don't think I've ever used OS X/macOS with a mouse.

Delighted for you. Lots of real-estate space with the secondMonitor - so it will be awesome.

Best of luck :)

What if you made a horrible mistake?! What if the new iMac that's coming out soon is completely redesigned, with newer and more powerful hardware, and new features such as Touch Bar? Oh my God, what if you'll feel awful?

I'm waiting to see what the new iMac brings to the table before I buy. Now, it would feel really terrible if you buy now and like next week the new models come out, but fortunately, that's highly unlikely. New models probably won't come out until sometime next year, maybe March, maybe June, who knows.

Enjoy the new iMac while you still can! Since one can't wait forever, I 100% understand wanting to buy now and just getting it over with and having a functioning computer - I'm sure it'll be great! Congratulations!

I actually was ready to buy earlier this year and just waited it out. When they didn't release anything this fall, I just said, screw it, I'm buying. I needed a new desktop so there was no real reason to wait any longer. I'm sure next year's iMac is going have something we all drool over but then again, it will have something else we cringe at....

Oh to be an Apple fan...

Unfortunately the prices went up in the UK after Apples last keynote. Nonetheless, ordered the following iMac 27-inch Retina for £2,388.32 on a black friday deal. Apple sells the same £2,704.00 so not a bad saving. My Late 2009 iMac has died again since replacing a failed gpu/lvds cable.

27-inch iMac with Retina 5K display

4.0GHz quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 4.2GHz
8GB 1867MHz DDR3 SDRAM - two 4GB
512GB Flash Storage
AMD Radeon R9 M395 with 2GB video memory
Magic Trackpad 2
Magic Keyboard (British) & User’s Guide (English)
Accessory Kit

Yes on the mouse, no on the keyboard. I hate the keyboard, something different enough, the spacing, or the key travel, but I type significantly slower on that and I'm getting more typing errors.

What keyboard are you using in it's place?

Interesting. Might I recommend a mechanical keyboard ?

My situation is the opposite I'm okay with the Magic keyboard (think it's good), but I swapped out that tiny little Apple Mouse for a Desktop class gaming mouse- Logitech G700S. It's nice and big, and the best mouse I have ever seen.

Hope you enjoy yours when it comes. Mine arrived today, ordered yesterday from an eBay Cyber Monday sale (yeah, the turn around time was unexpectedly awesome). My 32GB of RAM from NewEgg will be here tomorrow. (The primary reason I jumped on one of these sales now instead of waiting for the new model is I'm afraid Apple will get rid of the user-replaceable RAM and I'll be stuck paying their ridiculous prices).

The machine itself is awesome so far (again, I got the exact same one you ordered). The keyboard may take a little getting used to. It just feels small. But I can't be quick to judge yet. I have a cast on my right hand at the moment for a torn thumb ligament. So I'll wait until the cast is off to really get to work with the keyboard. I don't have any issues with the mouse so far. I will probably pick up a trackpad though, as I've gotten really used to using them, plus I can just sit with that on my lap instead of having to move a mouse around.

Still in the process of installing everything, setting it up the way I like, etc. The biggest thing is going to be figuring out where the heck I'm going to keep it. The screen is much bigger than what I'm used to. But I love the way it looks.

I have an older [wired] keyboard that I've been using, its not looking too good but its been solid. I'm actually looking to upgrade that keyboard as well

Yup, that's what I'm thinking, an old style cherry switched type keyboard.

Nothing beats seeing that your new iMac is "out for delivery"!

I'm going to give the keyboard/mouse a good try and see if I can live with both. From the looks of it and from trying both out in the store several times, I can probably deal with any faults they both have.

My main issue with the Magical mouse is that it hurt my hand after approx an hour of use. It's just so non ergonomic, I found it difficult to get a comfortable grip on it.

From my experience once you go with a large, desktop class mouse, you cannot go back.

It took me a day of using the mouse to order a Magic TrackPad 2. In my case, it's probably because I'm so used to using a MBP for all my Mac computing (have Windows at work with mouse). Luckily I live in an Amazon free same-day area, so the trackpad was there when I got home from work last night.

After using the keyboard a bit more, I don't think I'll mind it. Once the cast is off my left hand I think it'll be perfectly fine.

That screen. Oh boy, that screen. Not only does it look beautiful compared to the screens I'm used to, I almost don't know what to do with all of that real estate. I'm not used to being able to run an iPhone 7 Plus simulator without scaling down the size in Xcode, haha.

I hope you enjoy yours as much as I've enjoyed mine these couple days.

Are any of you using a dual monitor setup? I am going to be taking my 24 in Dell 2412M, and hooking it up as a second monitor. Something tells me it wont that necessary due to the large screen of the iMac and the ability to switch between desktops, but it's still nice to be able to turn on YouTube or Netflix and have it playing on the 2nd monitor.

I have a 21" Apple Cinema Display and I have that hooked up to my iMac, and it works well. Its not really needed for most of my tasks, but it has come in handy from time to time.

That's the same model I got in August and I absolutely love it - it's a brilliant machine

When I got mine, there were rumours about an "imminent refresh" with people saying to wait and here we are in December with no refresh visible so I think you did the right thing - if you get into the waiting game you could be waiting a long time! It's always better to get a machine that you need when you need it IMO

I personally love the magic keyboard (I also bought a magic trackpad to go with the keyboard / mouse combo and use both the mouse and the trackpad together: Mouse on the left and keyboard on the right)

Great to hear!

I noticed last night my speakers, the Harmon Kardon Soundsticks II are starting to come apart. Time to get some guerrilla glue.

I was pretty much the only one who predicted there wouldn't be a refresh... Called it roughly 2 weeks out and I just purchased my late '15 model then. There came a time where it became clear, I was able to tell.

My Mid 2010 27" is holding up pretty well but is showing it's age. I am seriously considering whether to wait. The odd thing to me is that there aren't even any rumors about the iMac. Nothing. Zero. That tells me that either it's not close or that it will only be a tweak to the specs at best.
I only want a 21" model (Retina) this time but I want to max out RAM and have a SSD. Even with Broadwell, it should be more than good enough and have some decent life.
