I suspect it depends on the corporation. The corporate discount I can see is better (8-9%) than the education one (~6-7%), except for the 8-core (10-11%).

I'm actually thinking about going to my local Apple store to pick up a 2.66GHz model with all the stock stuff. I dont really need the ATI 4870 yet and probably order one a couple months later.

I know what you mean, the things he listed that he'd want to use the mac pro for, he could easily do all those things with a 2.0GHz mac mini and then some!!
I'm trying to justify a purchase for the 2.66GHz mac pro but I feel as if I'd be forced to do more work such as getting into doing more rendering and all of that stuff on purpose to justify the purchase.
I guess what I'm saying is that most of my usage pattern does fine on a mac mini or a macbook pro but sometimes I just LOVE that feeling using a powerful machine for that TRUE desktop experience.
But not sure if its worth $4500 for that experience...

You can do all that stuff with an iPod touch + fiew apps from the mobile app store for only $250.00.
You'll get more mobility then a MacBook Air.
