I just sold my old iMac 2.16 C2D I was going to go for a mac pro. But felt it would be an over kill. So instead I went for a imac 24" 2.8 extreme, 500gb HDD, BT keyboard and mouse a normal keyboard and apple care. Can not wait to receive it. I already have 4gb of ram waiting for it from crucial.

    :)

Congratulations! I'd love a new iMac but can't really justify upgrading the old G5 one yet. :(

Well heck it's only fitting for me to reply as well since I'm on my iMac that came last Friday and I upgraded the memory (4GB) tonight.

    Enjoy your computer :)

Cheers guys, I am actually looking forward to t. I am now used to the 1900x1200 res on my MBP and my old imac looked rather poor in contrast. I had the choice of 24" 0r 20 last time. But as I was buying a new house plopped for the 20". I am glad that I could now pay out for the 24". Choose of the a new pro or this. I am glad I went for this,

I am a teacher as well as running my own business. It's quite a lot cheaper then buying a standard 2.8 for £1459

Nice one, i'm trying to find out how much the rig i want will cost, i'm entitled to the higher education discount but can't get onto my uni network to check the prices.

I'd be getting the same system as you, except might opt for a 750gb drive depending on the price.

    Enjoy the machine!

If you do buy it make sure you buy the 2.4 then spec it up as it works out approx £6o cheaper then buying the 2.8 and speccing it. I have just gone on to HE store and specced out the machine for you, to get you the cost.

First price shows the cost with out BT keyboard & mouse but 2.8 imac, 750 HDD and apple care.
    £1321.88

Second price shows the cost with out BT keyboard & mouse but 2.8 imac, 750 HDD and apple care.

    £1351.25

    shoppy mate, I'm just wondering.

You've got a 17" Hi-Res MBP as well as the 7200rpm HDD, so wouldn't it have been cheaper just to have bought a 23" ACD (or even 30" !) and connected it up to your MBP?

The performance would've been pretty similar to the iMac. Or is the iMac designed to be used by someone else while you use your MBP?

    Just curious is all :D

I have my 17"MBP as my main machine as I travel extensively. I say mine but the imac I sold my wife hogged for the time we owned it. So this one will be mainly used by her. She is using her her new 17" MBP high res 250GB HDD 2.6 I got her for christmas, whilst she waits for her new imac. She designs web sites and runs a few and the imac 20" was not cutting it for her. To many spinning balls.

If she finds the glossy annoying on the new imac, I'll send it back and simply order a mac pro and two 23" ACD. My wife is now travelling a bit show casing her work, which is why I got her the 17 High Res.

The BT keyboard and mouse I plan to take from the imac and use my self and an ilap stand and a 23" ACD. I am just deciding on which 23" screen to go for. My wife will use the wired keyboard as she needs the separate number part and my old gaming mouse.

I wanted the wireless keyboard and mouse but did not forking out £100, so added to imac cost, s saved approx £50.

    Not at all Mate.

That's what I have except I have the 750 HDD.

BTW, if you didn't do it right, cancel your order and reorder.

If you select the 2.8 premade option you pay for 2GB RAM, and you are getting 2x2Gb from crucial.

If you select the 2.4 and upgrade the CPU to 2.8 and the HDD to 500 then you save on the ram b/c it comes with 1GB standard instead. US savings of $150.

I too have just ordered a new iMac today.

    24", 2.4GHz, 320GB HDD, 1GB (I will be connecting up external 250 and 750 hard drives)

But you've all got me worried now. You all have 2.8GHz machines, i didn't really think a .8 bump would be worth it, i spent the extra money on 4GB RAM. Have i done the right thing...?

I wanted the 2.8 b/c I kept my G4 450 Sawtooth for 7 yrs prior to upgrading. I got the extra power for resale and added longevity. I upgrade less often than others. I also demand performance and hate to wait for my machine to do what I want exactly when I want, so I max spec for best available performance.

I bought my new iMac on Tuesday night. I like to upgrade my machines often, but I got the 2.8 GHz extreme for resale and power. When I do my C# programming, I have Parallels running Windows XP and I have iTunes open (in OSX) playing music, iChat open, etc... so I really think that I'll benefit from the extra processing power.

You didn't buy the 4GB from Apple did you?
Apple charges over $700 for 4GB of RAM on the iMac. You could get the same RAM on www.crucial.com for less than $120. (that is not a misprint)
