You don't have to "bitch" at Apple Customer Support. Just call them - Tell them you bought the phones and that they all have an issue with dropped calls. That you understand the free case program ended on Sept 30th but that also you read that Apple will still continue to offer the free bumper for those that call in - so that's what you're doing.

Be nice. Be concerned. That's really all you need....

Were on this again?
Every iPhone 4 has this issue. There is nothing preventing one from having it except something that doesnt bridge the connections.
People who say they dont have it are ignorant.

Unless you dont conduct, and are therefore not human, your iphone 4 fails when you bridge the connections. It is a problem and will happen to every single one manufactured in this fashion.

I did the free bumper app two days ago, bought my iphone October 6th and they sent me shipping info.

Funny, none of the iPhone 4 units that I've had, with multiple carriers, "fail" or even drop more signal than normal even when I deathgrip it, but I suppose that YOU know my experience better than me.

None the iPhone 4 models that my friends have drop calls either, deathgripped or not.

Americans on AT&T really need to broaden their horizons and stop thinking that the world is just like them. We aren't. We have decent carriers.

My opinion is that all cell phones should be in cases to protect them. Put an iPhone 4 in a case and the antenna issue becomes a non issue.

All of the cell phones I've ever owned have had cases for them, even the very cheap ones. The case not only protects from major damage but from everyday scratches etc.

Therefore my advice to the OP is put all the phones in cases, you won't regret it when it comes time to trade them in and you can get top dollar because they look so good. In the meantime the antenna issue is a non-issue.

Grarrr people like you in the used market drive me insane when I try to sell my phones. They expect the phone to be in absolute perfect condition (i.e to have lived in a case it's entire life), which would make sense if they wanted to use it naked because everyone loves that like-new feel.. but what's the logic if they're going to stuff it in a case anyway, thus hiding any minor scratches?!

if you call applecare and bitch to them they'll give you a free bumper.

+1. this antennae issue is one of the most OCD complaints ever.

Wrong.

Just because you don't have the problem, don't downplay it for others. It's a real problem with many people. I've always had excessive dropped calls but there's no doubt that it's worse with this one.

There was a rumor that Apple was going to offer a free bumper to people that phoned up on a case-by-case basis to complain about the antenna issues.

I'm not sure whether they'd send you five of them though.

great pun, even if it was unintended.. :D

Every iPhone 4 has the antenna issue. If it doesn't affect you, then you live in a good area (regardless of the carrier).

My iPhone 4 has the antenna issue, but if I drive to Portland Maine, the signal is so strong there that I can't reproduce the antenna issue and my data won't stop and my bars don't drop.

However, where I live, I can just touch that black band and get calls to fade out, data to stop completely and calls to drop completely, so I must be very careful where I place my hands on this iPhone (which I never had to do with my previous iPhones, even in the same area).

Even with this crappy antenna location, it's still the best iPhone I've ever had. I wouldn't go back to my 3G now. I just have to be more aware of how I'm holding it so that I don't block the signal. Yes, it actually stops all data from downloading (even if it still shows 1 bar).

The iPhone 4 loses bars when you hold it and gets lost in bars when you don't.

The sentence originally said:

"There was a rumor that Apple was going to offer a free case to people that phoned up on a case-by-case basis to complain about the antenna issues."

That sounded like too many cases in one sentence!

Guys, after having the phone for months now, even I have ran into complications. By habit I keep touching there and I have had some violently quickly dropped calls. And then I call back and I have to pinch it.

I was one of the "realists" who realized antennagate was more exaggerated than necessary but also, even for me who wouldn't say something is messed up unless I, in my sound reasoning and judgement, really feel it fairly is a problem, it is a real day to day inconvenience and causes undue concern due to unnecessary sensitivity to common touch.

At the end of the day its unprofessional.
