I purchased it on 9/27/20 online. It’s funny how they nickel and dime you lol.Nope. Warranty starts from purchase date at Costco. If you add Apple Care Plus, that too will start from the purchase date.

If you send Apple proof-of-purchase, they will update the expiry date. I did this for my Air 2 and iPhone 6s.
I just received my MBP . I checked the warranty before opening box, on the Apple coverage checker it states warranty expiration estimate of 9/23/21. I was expecting warranty to start from the moment I set it up. It was bought new from Costco. Cheers.
Now when entering my serial number on Apple’s website it says Purchase date not validated lol.For schnits and giggles I also tried adding Apple Care + and it says device serial is not eligible for additional coverage.

Thanks for the feedback. I wasn’t trying to get Apple Care. I just wanted to see what it would show when entering the serial number. Hence why I said for a schnits and giggles. I first tried the usual check coverage website it stated the error and then I tried the Apple care plus and it said I wasn’t eligible. However on my first day of ownership it showed a warranty date which it doesn’t now. Although it was about a week back per my original post.If Costco sells Applecare you might have to go through them. I got the same message when I tried to add AppleCare after delivery of a MacBook I bought from BestBuy. BestBuy was happy to sell me AppleCare for the system.
And my warranty start date was the day BestBuy shipped it to me. I wonder if it has to do with the reseller agreement. But for $200 less than Apple, I was not going to complain.
I bought AppleCare at the time of my order. the machine was covered before it shipped from Shanghai!my warranty started on the day I ordered it
maybe yours started when the place you bought it from bought it?Thanks, good information to know. Although doesn’t answer why my standard Apple care 12 month warranty started approx one week before I ordered it from an authorized reseller.
Yep that sounds like the most logical explanation so far. Thanks.maybe yours started when the place you bought it from bought it?
To get the additional 4 year warranty from Costco, do I have to purchase the device from Costco or will it work with apple.com also? I usually use my Amex card but that isn't useful since applecare+ is 3 years for Macs. You should reach out and talk or online chat with apple warranty support and get things sorted out. Us forum members are just stabbing in the dark. Also if you paid with the Costco visa card it will add additional warranty coverage as well as other coverage that is broader than the original warranty. For example one of my co workers was reimbursed his purchase price when his laptop got fried during a lightning storm.

I’ll touch base with Apple CS tomorrow and report back. I’m not sure why I care about this so much to be honest. Im sure the odds of me requiring a warranty assistance being one week out of my one year warranty would be low. Either way I have a receipt from Costco. But what’s troubling is that Costco doesn’t state the serial number on the receipt. Will that cause issues ?Did you purchase it with a credit card that has purchase protection? It used to come without added cost with most credit cards, over time many of the cards have dropped that coverage. I haven’t paid for an extended warranty in decades.
Very strange about the Apple warranty status—be interested to hear their explanation.
