The sound quality is great.

I use a pair of Bose Triport headphones, which will very easily show MP3 artifacts (swishy cymbals, etc), and the new iPod Classic sounds great.

Of course, your music is only going to sound as good as your MP3's. Most people can't tell the difference between anything above 160kbps.

iPod Classic firmware 1.0.1

Just installed the new firmware...

Cover Flow is a lot smoother, and seems to cache the album art, so there is very little delay when loading the album art. Great update, in my opinion.

I used to work at Best Buy, so I dropped by today and showed off a bit. I think I've sold a few people on it :)

I'm in Canada, so we haven't got it yet. Well, they have it, but for some reason they won't put it out until the 20th.

How Do You Get Photos Into A 5G iPod?

I'm an audio video guy and never bothered with photos until now. I can't figure out how to get photos into the iPod. I have an iPhoto 6 Missing Manual that mentions nothing about it. Anyone have a link to where putting photos on a 5G iPod is explained? Thanks.

Never mind. I finally figured out you have to dedicate a folder to iPod Photos in order to get stuff from different places into the iPod. Looks like Synch is required.

I swear the iPod sock is the best iPod case there is.

True

I agree completely, plus you can just slide it out and control the iPod without a case! I didn't buy official socks though, i opted for the knock offs that were in FYE that came in a pack of 4 similar colors for $10 :D

Well, not quite. Actually you can't scroll with click wheel when it is in the sock. You can press the buttons though ;)

You can scroll in a default 5th gen iPod case, but not in iPod Sock.

Hey what happened to my post? Anyway how much Cover Art have you got?

I do my best to get cover art for all my albums. Sometimes that means manually adding it. I've got cover art for 90% of my albums, the rest I am going to sit down and add manually. Pain in the butt, but it's worth it.

I saw a bug yesterday. It was playing a song, but the song that was displayed wasn't actually what it was playing. When I pressed the Forward button, it displayed the correct song without changing what was playing. Weird.

There's also the "P" at the top of the screen while connected to the computer. Weird.

Anyway, I'm sure with firmware 1.1, a lot of these bugs will be smoothed out. Still a very very useable experience.

what's up first time poster but I just got a 80 gig classic(black) last week. This my 2nd ipod the first was a 1st gen windows. unfortunatly for me I got it on ebay and teh audio connector was bad(could only get mono). Even after having it repaired by a third party it eventually went the same way. Anyways I've cannabalised that one for it's HD. and now I have my 80 gig.

I love it. great form factor. Ittelligent GUI. I have a few gripes with itunes but everything on the ipod is jelly. I wish putting non itunes video on it was a bit easier(I know why should apple make it that way). But video play back is crisp and bright. I plan on watching a lot of stuff on it. only have 20 gigs used so far. I wish apple would some day package decent ear buds with teh ipod. I ended up buying a pair of 40 dollars sony ones that really do a great job with bass and mids. Anyways just my 2 cents.

I'm eagerly awaiting delivery of my new iPod classic 80GB in silver - should be tomorrow hopefully!

It's a birthday present to myself, replacing a 1st gen silver 4GB iPod mini, which has served me faithfully for over 2 years - nothing wrong with it, but I like to keep up to date with Apple tech in some small way.

I was sold on the iPod touch 16GB until the reality of the product started to come through in reviews and user experiences, but on reflection the classic fits my usage patterns better anyway.

I suggest you reread what i actually said:

I enjoy the black it seems more natural with the backing. bit sexier too I guess. matter of fact I think teh silver would only go well with an aluminum mac.

Id go w/ the silver classic. the black one gets marks / dirty easier than the other one.
