So I own an iPhone X and I ordered the XS Max last week. It’s just arrived and it’s the first time I’ve not felt excited about a new phone.

I’d like a bigger screen but for the money it’s a lot to pay just for the screen. Everything else to me is exactly the same, so I’ve decided I’ll send it back and hold out another year.

Any one else sending theirs back?

You are not going to give it more than a day to get over your initial reactions? I pick mine up soon but from what I’ve seen, the camera is a pretty huge upgrade. Also there is the stereo video recording and better speakers, better waterproofing, faster LTE, and many other little things. For me on T-Mobile, it will be worth it getting Band 71 support alone. You have 14 days, I would use it for at least a week to see if it grows on you.

Interesting. I felt the same when I bought the iPhone X. I am thus going to play with the Xr and then decide if I should be ordering it. After the X, I have decided not to order any future iphones, until I have an opportunity to play with it. At prices above $1000, not trying it first before ordering does not make sense to me. I would hope Apple would make its phones available in Apple stores before the preordering starts. There is no reason not to show people the phones before starting the preordering.

I feel the same - but I think the issue is that we have an iPhone X which is a great phone... I think I'm going to return my iPhone Max and stick with the X for another year...

Not a chance. Whenever my XS Max finally comes I will be keeping it for 2-3 years. With all the power in this thing, and they huge upgrades to the camera from last year, it will be amazing for a long time. I cannot STAND the X’s screen size, so that is why I would take almost anything over the X, lol

You have 14 days to try it out, and can return it for a full refund.

When I went Plus a few years ago, it took a bit of time to grow on me; now I wouldn't consider anything but the Max!

This doesn't surprise me. An even more likely return are the X to Xs. But, people will do it.
Latest and greatest.

These make more sense for non X users, or ideally pre-8 or 7 users. I've got a 6+ that's really nice, but kinda slow, so my upgrade makes more sense, although even then is meh. The 6+ is pretty darn good.

But there's the new toy aspect, that sort of trumps everything else, in the grand scheme.

These phones are really for iPhone SE, 6 and 7 users, which are the large majority of iPhone uners. The upgrade is really unnecessary even for the 8/8+ crowd. However I went with the MAX anyway. I would have gone with the XR if it hadn't been for no dual camera, I like the big screen. I will report my first impressions tonight after I pick mine up. There definitely is no real rush to get these phones.

Unreal. So many people who actually want the phone have to wait, as people like the OP return them hours after receiving because it’s ‘just a bigger screen’. Did you not watch the keynote? What exactly were you expecting to blow you away? The website, the ‘hands-on’ reviews and the keynote laid out all there was to know before pre-orders went live.

Exactly! Except for the longer wider screen, much better camera, faster processor, stereo speakers etc. Right back!

This post has trace hints of living beyond your means. Obviously you've determined that the money is worth more than the upgrades, so there's not much else to do but return the Max and continue using the discontinued X.

Ok, and what is wrong with the screen, camera, processor, and speakers on the X?

Are you taxing your current processor on your older phone? Do you find yourself needing higher quality speakers in a phone? I mean what are you trying to do with it?

Same stuff every year. People just likes to consume.

My question .......if you return a new phone say for the reason OP stated does that then make it a refurbished phone? Or does  repackage and sell as new. It is new, just opened and returned.

Any comparisons in screen quality with your iPhone X and the Max? I know LG makes the screens now and I’m not a fan of their quality.

You’ve only had it for a few hours. Why not make use of the 14day return period and see if you end up getting used to it.

Just like always getting the latest and greatest. Also for my work i need the larger landscape. Plus with the IUP its ~$5.00 per month. No brainer.

I’m not seeing any, quality to me seems the same only bigger. It’s a lovely phone and if I’d upgraded from an 8 under I’d be keeping it.

I was on the fence to start with to be honest. I’d thought I’d get one in the hand to have a play and make a choice which I have
