Just returned from vacation. My iPhone 12 Pro Max's photos stopped syncing to my MBP. I'm dying to edit my photos on my MBP!

MBP is running latest version of Big Sur, 11.4
Photos ARE syncing to both my iPad just fine.

I did Google solutions to this problem.
Step #1 typically is:
  • Restart iPhone, then disable “iCloud Photos” in settings.
But I can’t make that happen. I can't disable “iCloud Photos” in iOS Settings.

What happens is, after several minutes,
1) The spinning vortex with the "Turning Off" message goes away
2) ‘iCloud Photos’ then shows re-enabled

I’ve tried this 10 times.

Can anyone help?

I don’t know how to resolve the issue about not being to turn iCloud Photos off, but an alternative method to download photos to your MBP is to login into icloud.com on your MBP > Photos > Select > tap the 3 dots in the circle to show the download command. You can select multiple photos to download in one batch.

While it will not solve the underlying technical problem, why not transfer the photos by cable? Just to get rid of the edit anxiety? 🤓

There are 2 places where you can go to disable iCloud Photos, you can do it from Settings—Photos, or you can tap on your name/Apple ID, then iCloud, then Photos. You might try going at it from both ways and see if one works.

Since they're syncing to your iPad, it sounds like the problem is in your computer and not your phone, or in other words it looks like your phone is syncing to iCloud but your computer isn't. If you want to double check, go to

For whatever reason, my computer on Big Sur sometimes gets glitchy and does this, both with Photos and with the iCloud drive.

IIRC, the solution in the past for me has been a reboot. Whatever the case, I need to do it, as mine has been acting up since last night.
