Just returned my new 2012 mbp

And got the late 2013 model... For $200 more got 256 more gigs and the Iris graphics... Smart move?

Seems smart to me.
You would have spent more than that if you'd tried to upgrade to that extra 256GB later.

I actually went the opposite way (rMBP to cMBP) for several reasons: $999 student pricing, need ethernet port and optical drive for school, ability to upgrade and repair down the road. I personally don't mind the lower resolution but the battery life and speakers are definitely worse.
