yeah thanks for adding $50 to the price of the iphone so we can all cover the cost of gamers abusing the return policy.I scratched my 3gs screen and applied a good screen protector after and it helps to hide the scratch.
Here is the second way to fix it. All iPhone 4s (most atleast) have hairline cracks in the glass pannels mostly the back, however you can not see it on the black phones only the white ones. thats why they didnt deliver the white ones, they are trying to fix the issue. the way you identify if your is cracked is with a laser pointer. Use it and go over the back with the beam at an ange so it illuminates a long line along the surface, go very slowly and carefully and you will find these very minute cracks. Then take it to the apple store and tell them its cracked and you want it replaced (bring your laser pointer or they cant se it) Good luck...
And for those who are going to flame me, go try it first then flame me if im wrong...
HOLY CRAP!
Just got back from the Apple Store Genius Bar. Here's what happened.
APPLE: Hey, what can I do for you?
ME: Well, I've only had this [showing iPhone] for a few days and I've already managed to scratch it. I was wondering if there was anything I could to to either take it out or at least minimize it. It's not that deep so it's not really noticeable when the screen is dark but on really bright stuff like in Safari it's pretty distracting.
APPLE: Hmm... how did it happen?
ME: I had it on my dashboard.
APPLE: And it slid?
ME: Yeah.
APPLE: Hmm... let me see what I can do. Do you have your data backed up?
ME: Yeah.
APPLE: Ok, well here's what I can do. I can order you another one, but there's no telling when they'll come back in stock.
ME: Yeah, I've seen like... middle of July...
APPLE: Yeah, but when it does come in, we can give you a call and you can come in and pick it up. And we can do it free of charge. Is that OK?
ME: Sure!
APPLE: Ok, let me get this started.
[Processes new order]

Unreal!!! They're going to replace my phone for something that was 100% my fault. Every now and then I question my faith in Apple, but it's times like this that make me remember why I love them so much. I was expecting to be told that they can't do anything because it's a cosmetic problem and it's not under warranty and blah blah. They were perfectly in their right to do so and they still are going to give me a new phone.
I don't even care if I have to hold it in a claw like grip to keep a solid signal... I guess I've been holding it wrong my whole life.
BTW, I'll be getting an Invisible Shield for my replacement iPhone, now that I now how easily the screen scratches. And my dashboard is off limits.![]()

Good. I thought they would, they are always more accommodating around release time.
Honestly, your advice is what made me decide to go and just see what they would say, even though I figured I'd just be told "Sorry!".
Thanks!
you could go in and say you have been getting lots of dropped calls with your iphone and your roomate has the IP4 also and he does not. Then ask if you can get a replacement. I did that with my 3g twice after scratching it to get a new phone.
NOOOO!!
So today I was driving home and was like, "Hey! I want to see if I can make a cool video with my new 720p camera on my phone!" So I started recording (while at a stop light) and put my phone down on my dashboard with the camera facing up to get the sky and just left it there. Well, unfortunately at one point I had to take a turn and my phone slid over to one side.
When I got home I grabbed my phone from the dashboard and saw this long scratch going from the top of the screen down to about 3/4's from the bottom. My heart sank. I haven't had this phone 24 hours and I've already defaced it.
I know that this screen is made differently, so I'm not sure if the techniques used to treat scratches for previous iPhones would do different things to my screen.
Has anyone ever fixed a scratch on their iPhone screen before? What's the procedure like? Any adverse effects? Any words of advice? I hate myself right now.![]()
