The macbook air only allows you to have 2GB of RAM, that sucks when you want to have a bunch of apps open. That is my performance issue with the airs.

its actually not that bad... try having a G4 iBook running 10.5 with multiple apps open...
It's all about perspective.

Anyhow, I don't blame you now knowing the Apple is going to release a Netbook...

makes me wonder if this will be the end of the macbook air????

My Rev B is working great, I am looking for a trade for a MBP personally. But in my case that is just because I find myself needing the portability of the Air less.

MOST people don't use a full 2 GB of RAM. There certainly are some who do use it. I don't see the 1066 MHz RAM as a limitation really, although your rev A has 667 MHz RAM. I would prefer my 2 GB of RAM in MBA over the 4 GB of RAM have in both unibody MB and v2,2 MBP.

Truly, for MOST apps and MOST users 2 GB is sufficient. Those numbers are changing, and I believe the MBA rev C will have 4 GB of RAM standard. It seems pretty obvious what Apple is doing now that it can easily manage 2x2GB chips on the new MBA computers. I believe, I AM NOT POSITIVE, that there are two 1 GB RAM chips soldered on the board. I think I remembered reading that, so seems that with now better pricing and that other high-end Macs are moving to 4 GB the MBA will next. I say high-end as the nicer iMac, MBP, and Mac Pro all have 4 GB of RAM or MORE in the case of the high-end Mac Pro.

I believe Apple will give us 4 GB in the next rev C MBA. However, I will take my 1.86 GHz rev B MBA with SSD and 2 GB 1066 MHz RAM, over my unibody MB 2.4 GHz (I know it has 1066 MHz RAM TOO) with 4 GB RAM, 7200 rpm HDD and my 2.33 GHz MBP with 4 GB 667 MHz RAM and 7200 rpm HDD.

RAM isn't all it's cracked up to be if not fully utilizing it. I find that my MBA definitely does WELL compared to unibody MB and MBP. So, I just don't get this performance issue. Unless you are putting SSD in your MB... and you are going to find a better quality display to somehow add to it as remember you are losing QUALITY and viewing angle capabilities in your MB display. And you are going to swap the CPU for one like the MBA or MBP have with more L2 cache.

Honestly, I don't think you are talking about a performance boost if you were talking a rev B MBA with SSD. BUT, you are talking about a rev A MBA with 2 GB of 667 MHz RAM.

I predict you will be using a MBA rev B or rev C within a year's time, assuming the financial aspects are not the limiting factors. And assuming that this is truly a PERFORMANCE upgrade? And I must assume you will eventually learn that the rev B MBA with SSD does outperform the unibody MB for MOST tasks and common interactions with computer.

Make sure you do some research and are going to be as happy as you think with that MB. It is pretty until you turn it on. Just like the original MBA. LMAO. That will get me some hate mail.

Good luck.

That's a shame what you say about the MB screen, I presume you mean the latest unibody MB?

Now I DO KNOW that the unibody MB screen IS NOT as good/bright as the unibody MBP, but that's just a distinction between the two products in terms of consumer and prosumer, but I would still not call the MB screen bad.

Yeah I mean the unibody MB and it's a relative thing. In isolation, by itself, the MB screen isn't bad for it's objectives. As a consumer focused screen, it serves well for your standard web browsing, email, word processing, and the like.

That I agree with. I was hoping the rev B would have 4 GB of ram, but since it didn't I'm hoping rev C will correct this limitation. Apple has a bad habit of putting piddly amounts of ram in it's high end machines.

I wanna sell my Rev A too. Then I won't have to see every thread single thread in this forum crapped all over by Scottsdale.

Dude, seriously, give it a rest. We know you like your Rev B better. If I have to see you you say it once more I'm gonna throw-up.

I'd like to get rid of my RevA for a B, also. Played around with the new one. Pretty zippy compared to what I have.

OMG that's funny! I agree

I sold both of my Macbok Airs as well. I love the new Macbook, the Air jsut felt sluggish to me!

PREPARE TO VOMIT!

GO REV B MBA! LMAO!

Sure rev A owners can keep thinking they were right for going for a deeply discounted rev A refurbished for $999 to $1299. Definitely smarter now that Cool Book and software rewrites are making it better able to operate without overheating, experiencing core shutdown, and finally locking up completely. As an ORIGINAL MBA buyer (from March 2008), I can say that for MOST of us original MBA buyers, the experience was not fun in March of 2008.

But to compare the rev A to the rev B in terms of power is just stupid. The rev B MBA is simply perfect in every way. It is definitely powerful, too. Sure the rev A MBA looks really pretty and still has the amazing form factor.

I just don't get stating your leaving the MBA, but not clearly clarifying that going for a unibody MB is NOT a step ahead compared to the rev B MBA...

Personally, I wouldn't do it, but to each his own. I guess cheap gets a lot of people. I get that part of buying rev A MBA and going unibody MB. At least the rev A MBA has one beautiful display to watch. That unibody MB is going to be tough for our OP to deal with after leaving the MBA. The differences in visual quality are obvious when going backwards.

GO MBA+++

After a bit of tweaking I have absolutely no issues with my MBA Rev A. Resetting the heatsink with AS MX-2 and running coolbook gives me a 41*C Idle - 95*C max load CPU temp. For what I use the Air for, it is the perfect computer for me and I have no reason to change. This is used as my second computer so I only use it for email, web browsing, hulu video watching, word processing, and a little bit of warcraft gaming. =)

Dissasembly photo's look like there is eight 256mb chips on the logic board.

Second Photo.

Not really what I meant or how I meant it. The spacing is like a SoDIMM. It's like two of them right? Between all eight chips???

Anyways, since Adamo was released with 4 GB of RAM today in the high-end version, I believe Apple WILL find a way to put 4 GB or RAM in rev C MBA.

At least I really really hope so, and I believe it.

Go MBA!

Nice link.

I sold my MBA too. I bought a Vaio TZ refurbed for $1100 which has a 64GB SSD + 250GB HDD and runs for over 8 hours on a single charge (from experience, not Sony's inflated claims). It's also got a gorgeous carbon fiber lid! I love the new hardware, but I miss OSX. I really took apps like Preview and Grapher for granted, but they are incredibly well thought-out and easy to use compared to Windows counterparts.

My Sony TX gets similar battery life. That's one thing Sony is well known for on their high end line - the incredible battery efficiency. The TZ is a nice machine but after a while you may find the 11 inch screen to be rather small and cramped.

Q. Why does the MBA forum remind me of the circus?

A. We have a One Trick Pony among us

My Asus Eee 1000he gets seven hours of battery life no problems. Does just what I need when I'm sitting on campus waiting in between classes. If battery life is your main concern, you can find it in toy like packages now a days... hehe

That pretty much sums it up. It's hilarious to me that people feel the need to post that they got rid of one computer for another. Clearly an uninformed buyer in many respects. The Air isn't for everyone ... obviously, but it is not a POS.

after spending a couple weeks with the new MB, the air's are definitely inferior, including the Rev B's.

Is the screen inferior? No.
Is the weight inferior? No.
Is the form factor inferior? No.

So it's not definitely inferior. It's not inferior in all ways. It's just inferior in your eyes because the things that the MB beats the MBA on are more important to you than many of us. Most people who buy MBA machines value the portability over the specs/power.

Hi all...I just bought a MBA 1.86 SSD today! (sold my sony vaio TT could not live in Windows) I hada MBA SSD ver A before and sold it to buy a 2.4 UMB. I had no problems with my version a MBA and thought it was an awsome notebook and I have missed it everyday. The UMB is a great choice but the screen is not that great at all. This is the main reason I have come back to the MBA again. I will be getting rid of my UMB as I also have a UMBP. I also think that the Sony TZ/TT is a great ultra portable!!! I just love OSX.

I wonder how much money the original MBA cost Apple in the long run. In terms of loss as it was problematic.

Wouldn't the original MBA also cost owners who had to upgrade to Rev B?

I had a REV A, but I have used the REV b's also and compared them to a macbook unibody with 4GB of ram. No comparison.

I thought benchmarks show that Rev B MBA with SSD outperforms the MacBook?

after spending a couple weeks with the new MB, the air's are definitely inferior, including the Rev B's.

Well, since I own a 2.4 GHz unibody MB with 4 GB of RAM and a 7200rpm HDD, I have to disagree... as I also own a rev B MBA.

I refuse to even power up the MB. The display is so inferior it's not even funny. The MB is so slow compared to the MBA. And, it's heavier...

So, I don't get how anyone could say the rev B MBA is inferior, especially when YOU DID NOT OWN A REV B MBA! How could you know NORMAL use and that the rev B MBA is inferior when you haven't owned it.

Sure, people can say one thing and believe another, sure some believe ten minutes on a computer proves something. BUT in the end, real proof comes from things like benchmarking and patterns of everyday use comparison.

I will take my rev B MBA over MY Unibody MB ANY DAY of the week... Until the MB gets a viewable display, it CANNOT compete in any way with the MBA!

Put an SSD in your MB, and you still cannot touch the MBA, as the display in the MB will always be inferior and cheap.

To each his own in the end, but until you have owned and used extensively a rev B MBA, I am going to advise people to NOT trust what you say about the rev B MBA being inferior to the MB. You simply DO NOT have the experience of both computers to compare them... ENOUGH SAID.
