As of 7:10 pm, they still had models available for walk-ins. Obviously they are closed now because it is after 9pm, but it looks good for those with month long pre-order waits (like i had before i just cancelled). Boyfriend and i went to go play with the new phone, and they had greeters outside asking if you were here for the X. If you said yes they asked if you had a pickup or if you were looking to buy one now. We had wanted one now and they said to wait in the line and a lady would come by to see if they had the models we wanted in stock. 2 minutes later a lady comes with an ipad and asks us what models we wanted. I wanted verizon SG 64gb but they only had 256, boyfriend wanted att SG 64 and they had it. So we said yup those work for us and she said alright, they are reserved for you, a rep will be with you shortly. 10 minutes later we are checking out with our phones.
As for the boyfriend, he doesnt have att, he has straight talk, but it is on the att network. Because we bought it in store (outright, full price), we DID NOT have to give the apple rep any carrier details so he was able to buy it as if it were sim free. He put his straight talk sim in, and it worked right away.
So yeah, if your preorder is still a month plus out, try an apple store! They'll probably still have what you want available! We were surprised thats for sure!
