I am a teacher so I use my iPad for solving problems using a stylus and pdf's of my book pages.. I also give notes using it and will use it as a graphing calculator. I use it to make worksheets and print materials as well.

Privately, it's an Ebook reader and also my music sheets when I play guitar or piano at church.

All of those things make using a mini irrational for me because it would be simply too small.

i use my laptop all the time for work, and my phone all the time on the go. i try to use the iPad, but i find it the least ergonomic, and after several OS updates the user experience has become quite miserable.

originally i was drawn to the gorgeous display of the first retina iPad, but since then both the iPhone and macbook pro screens have become much more impressive in their own rights.

if i could take it back to iOS 6, i'd probably still enjoy it as a youtube / netflix viewer, but it stutters so much on current software it mostly just sits off to the side. kinda sad. :(

edit: i will say the iPad has consistently delivered on its battery life. also, i like the idea that iPads are going to be more artist friendly with the upcoming stylus. but its not worth the price premium for me for now.

How do you feel about the new magic keyboard, with the reduced key travel? I am afraid long term, Apple will trend all its keyboards towards reduced travel...

Unfortunately, I have not had a chance to experience the Magic Keyboard nor the MacBook with reduce travel keys. I was considering ordering the Magic Keyboard, but I suspect it might take some getting used to.

I agree with you though, if even the Magic Keyboard (a desktop keyboard) is going this route, it will become Apple's standard.

My justification is a combination of business and pleasure. During my day job I'll using it for taking meeting notes and jotting down ToDos and ideas. For my 2nd job, photography, I'll use it for displaying my work to clients, and having the models sign their picture which I'll display on the iPad. For after work I'll use it extensively for reading the news and watching Netflix. :)

Hello, have a quick question - just looking for some outside input. I currently have an iPhone 6s 128GB. I love the phone, and I am even contemplating upgrading to a 6s+ for the added screen real estate, battery, and OIS. With that said, I am in a position where I can add a cellular iPad (Mini 4 or Air 2) to my plan for a low cost. While I love the idea of having an iPad, will it really be necessary to have when I have the phone at my disposal? What all do you guys use your iPads for? If I were to get one, it would most likely be a media consumption device predominately. Just looking for some outside info. Thanks :)

I use my iPad for Web browsing since I find it easier to read websites with it vs on my iPhone. Movies I prefer 16:9 but the bigger screen with the iPad just makes it better imo. I usually use my iPad with cellular for all my Web browsing, reading books and gaming unless I'm on the train that's crowded and then I'll just use my phone

I also use my iPad for some note taking at school and mixture of writing essays on my iPad and laptop.

Yes an iPad can be handy one to get for you. Its perfect for things where you need bigger screen and portable too. Although laptop is also portable but according to me laptop is not that user friendly compared to iPad. So my vote is for iPad.

Also with most laptops that are the conventional kind produces heat and will get hot if you want to use it on your lap*. There also quit bigger then tablets as well. The iPad Air 2 is 9.7 inches and weighs less then a pound. It produces no heat since it doesn't have a HDD and the cpu/gpu doesn't require a fan. You can also buy a Bluetooth keyboard to use it similar as a laptop.

*Some newer pc laptopsI and macs don't have this issue I believe?

I will offer this experience: A few weeks ago I got rid of my iPad Air and Mac mini and bought a retina Macbook Pro. I love my new laptop and use it every day, and figured since it's so thin and light and portable, it would be able to replace both machines.

A few weeks later I was on eBay buying another iPad. The rMBP's form factor makes it very portable, but the heat it gives off takes some of that portability away. If I start streaming video/audio or playing a game, it gets hot. Not so hot that I'm sweating or anything, but hot enough to be uncomfortable in my lap. It's situations like this where the iPad is the perfect machine.

So yes, at one time I thought the iPad had become useless to me. It only took 2 or 3 weeks for me to completely regret that decision and buy another iPad.
